Same problem for me, My system doesn't reboot.
I don't know why, but I'm pretty sure that bios configuration is not responsible.
And That's true, you're right, your english sucks !!!!!! (I'm joking !)
Cheers,

(I'd say) its something to do with Mac OS wanting to access Open Firmware (or EFI, I guess) and not finding it.

I also have this problem, I can shutdown fine it just won't reboot.
Hiro_
Yeah, i thinked than was the bios, because an time i had this problem with an Linux version. Now i not understand Kris2000

What is your computer configuration? What sort of mobo do you have?

I had no problems rebooting when using an ASUS P5LD2-VM, but with my current Nforce4 motherboard, my computer hangs on reboot. It shuts down fine though.

c0nfused the configuration the of my computer is an processor Intel Pentium IV 3.0 GHz Prescott, 1024 of RAM memory, HD SATA 40 GB, the mobo is an MSI 661 FM-L.

Do you know if i with himself it correct this problem?

Once somebody found out how to fix that problem. It had something to do with editing (not sure if it was a kext or if a hex editor was needed) a file. Since win2osx is gone that knowledge has been lost. I've tried googling to see if there was a cache of the page but no luck. I wish somebody here remembered that fix and post the info. BTW has nothing to do with EFI, this problem predated the new macs and their loader.

hi,

I think this is a problem with AMD chips that as yet has no fix... sorry.

=V=
Deviant0ne
I've read the same thing. I have this problem, although shut down works fine.
velayo
Has nothing to do with amd, my processor is an intel pentium 4 with ss3, and still freezes when trying to restart. Wish any of the big dogs reads this post and gives us the hack to fix this problem.

woof, woof,

this was on the old win2osx.net forum...mach_kernel 10.4.4 , offset 0x8D2BB, put the following bytes: B0 FE E6 64

woof... smile.gif
Veeoh
sorry means nothing to me sad.gif - i assume we have to edit the mach_kernel with a hex editor - bit scary for me i'm afraid.

Is there one I can get from anyone already edited?

It works for me. Thanks, omni smile.gif

In 1044/5/6 we can use only one kernel - Darwin 8.4.1. You can check this: type in terminal "uname -rms"
joblo10
I can't get it to work sad.gif
Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong plz

1 - Open mach_kernel (AMD prepatched kernel) for 10.4.4 in HexEdit
2 - Select menu find and GOTO offset 0X8D2BB
3 - Save mach_kernel to a new name like mach_kernel.new to make it writable
4 - Add the following B0 FE E6 64
5 - Save and reboot, at Darwin prompt type mach_kernel.new

When I do this, as soon as the kernel loads my comp just reboots as if I screwed the kernel.

Do I have to to do the hex with the original mach_kernel from 10.4.4 without any patches applied to it?
omni
Perhaps you are not patching in a proper spot or it's a wrong kernel. Otherwise I am not sure whether this patch interferes with other patches (I run Intel SSE3 so dont need that many patches)
joblo10
Thanks for replying so fast, smile.gif

0x8D2BB puts my cursor at that location : A5 1F 00 HERE EB FE 90 90 90

Do you have the same? No matter I use the original mach_kernel from 10.4.4 or AMD prepatched, I get the same bytes.

Maybe this picture will help you::

oh great, i missed this tweak on the old board, it works great ,now i don't have to find and hit the reset button to reboot on my nforce3 mobo

Thx Omni !
Sherry Haibara
It works very well here, using an AMD64 with 10.4.6 system smile.gif
It reboots in about 3 seconds! biggrin.gif

dont work for me, restart now shuts down the system. lol
macprodan
Lol, this is so strange. Shutdown does what Restart used to, Hang. Restart now Shuts Down the system... hysterical.gif
macprodan
OK, i figured it out. if i add kernel flag Platform=ACPI it work perfect. Shutdowns and Reboots.. Great, this one's going in the OS X list of things to remember.

It works!

I was definatly not doing the good thing, I was adding bytes instead of replacing... works perfect now on my venice A64. I'll remember that an offset location include 4 bytes now blink.gif

Thanks for the help guys biggrin.gif
matrix961
Great Job with this. Now I can restart without having to press the button manually. Where the hell was this fix hiding?

NPWSKI:

Thanks for the screenshot. This really helped out because I used "Hex Fiend" and could not search for the actual offset, would not find it. I was able to find the line by seeing what you had highlighted in the screenshot, I just searched for that then compared the lines to make sure I had the right one.

Great Work!!!
velayo
Omni, just came back from a trip and haven't tried it yet, but damn, THANKS man!!!!! I've been searching hi and lo for this one for a while. I'm going to print it just in case, and keep it in my safe. graduated.gif I didn't remembered who was the author, but did remember seeing it and saying i'll try that later. Thanks, again. Keep up the good work!!! biggrin.gif

BTW I knew it was one of the big dogs, HEHE!

Is it meaning following?

1. musit find the 10.4.4 mach_kernel form 10.4.4?

2. edit and replace the mach_kernel to my OSX whatever your system's version (Like 10.4.3 or others)?

Thanks to omni and many kind guy.

works perfect....thx people

Excellent thread! When I took out Cel D336 and put in Pent D930, comp doesn't shut off, goes to blink cursor on black screen. I will try this, thanks!

OMG I missed this one, it works now yay guitar.gif

Hi i have an Intel P4 2.8 and i have not applied the amd enabler patch yet,so the Mach_Kernel doesn't have that line,do you think it is safe to apply the amd enabler just to get a matching kernel to edit ?

I saw someone with an P4 saying it worked but i'm affraid of messing it.

thanks
munky
I dont suppose this will help non-working sleep mode? (All that happens is that the mouse pointer disappears)

How do i edit the mach_kernel? Is it in the MacOSX enviroment...or in windows...i dont have a clue...sorry im a newbie!
dogboyaa
found out...you need hex workshop...

Open Terminal: Type

cp /mach_kernel ~/Desktop/mach_kernel

Then Copy file to usb drive and use hex workshop to open above file.

replace: EBFE9090 w/ B0FEE664

Save File

copy file back to the desktop

Then At the Mac open terminal again and type:

sudo cp ~/Desktop/mach_kernel /

you are done.

So does ours... this is the only known fix for that reboot problem in OSx86. If is not working, well... it's not working.
Hiro_
Yeah Belgrano, but i dont know nothing, please explain for me your solution please. I not try nothing understand.
belgrano
There is a file called mach_kernel on your OS X partition. Of course, it's hidden so you have to use Onyx or Cocktail to make invisible files become visible. Then, using a hex editor, you have to open that file and replace some values, as it was mentioned above. THAT IS THE FIX. If it's working, you're lucky. If not... that's it.
macprodan
This fix did not work for me until i added Platform=ACPI to the Kernel flags at the Darwin boot prompt or by adding it in com.apple.boot.plist located in /library/prefrences/systemconfiguration/ if i did not Specify ACPI it just switched the Shut down and Restart routine, lol, it mad shutdown hang and restart shutdown as normal.

You could also De-Patch a kernel to suit your needs, one that already has the Restart Fix. Has, Base + AMD + CPUID + SSE pacthes apply'd.
