I am successfully running iAtkos 1.4i (Leopard 10.5.4) on a new Asus Mobo self-built box.
Built-in Atheros Gigabit ethernet not working (using RTL8139 PCI).
Built-in Sound working in Stereo-Out only with patched AzaliaAudio.
My biggest problem is the reliability of the system. Sure, it RUNS, and when it RUNS it runs fast!
I haven't had a WinXP program crash in months, maybe I am selective about what I run, but I do run quite a few OLD games (Quake II, Slave Zero, Rayman 2). On my new box (and this isn't a complaint, because I am very happy it actually RUNS AT ALL on the cheapest PC available), the software seems "flaky" or "touchy", just a little bit unreliable, especially when launched for the first time on the machine. In one night of use, I would have clicked on the "IGNORE" button in crash dialogs just a few times too many.
The only software I have discovered that does not work at all is:
iMovie '08 (I believe this is a global problem)
Overflow
Quake 1 (any variant)
I am wanting to test this out with a virgin Vanilla Kernel and System.kext to test stability of software - any hints on where to find these for 10.5.4? My sound is usually distorted badly when using vanilla kexts, but this may be fixed with 10.5.5 vanilla kernel etc. with a working PS/2 keyboard patch.
Anyone else having "usability" or stability issues with OSX86, please post your thoughts below!
(this makes me want to reinstall LINUX!, at least it was stable).
EDIT: I am using Kabylkernel with Netkas SMBIOS from original DVD. I am using MBR with Darwin Bootloader. Would it make ANY sense to use GUID + EFI/Chameleon + vanilla kernel/system.kext in relation to stability? Would it make any non-working software run (like Parallels Desktop 4.0 which refuses to even install?).
PS. I have LOTS of files backed up called "mach_kernel.zip" and System.kext, with no way of checking versions (at least not with the kernels) - maybe I should have renamed these before backing them up eh?
