I have been thinking about getting an used card until Ati or Apple releases drivers for 4xxx series, and I'm asking that which one would be the fastest/most compatible with hackintosh. Of course I want hardware accelerated Core Image and quartz extreme. Should I go for nvidia or get an Ati-card? Would the 7300LE 256mb be a good choice, or is it too slow? When searching around the forums and the wiki I found out that X1950 would be a very good card, but they seem to be very expensive, even the used ones unsure.gif (over 60 euros and so). How about the ATI 2400XT that is used in iMacs (it has a very attractive price, under 30 euros)? I'm not going to play any games with hackintosh, but Final Cut Extreme would be nice tongue.gif
I'm using Retail Leopard 10.5.5.

Thanks in advance biggrin.gif

Best performance cards would probably be either the 8800 ultra, or 9800gtx.

Oops, I forget to mention that I'm still keeping my HD4850 for windows use, and the card that I'm searching for should be cheap and so it could be an used card, something couple of years old. 9800GT would be nice, but I cannot afford it right now, and I'm not selling my dear HD4850 ^^

I use a 7300LE in one of my main machines. For a cheap card it is surprisingly good. It runs one monitor at 1600x1200, all UI effects are smooth and 1080p HD content plays fine on my P5B with o/c E6400.

You should be able to get a 7300 almost for free, I rescued this card from the trash it was an HP OEM card.

My other machine is Nv 8600GT, runs on a stock dell 530 with E4600. The 8600 drives two displays, one at 1900x1200 and another 1600x1200. UI effects, 1080p hd video are all perfect with 2.4g processor.

These cards won't win any speed contests but they give great UI experience considering the low $ and both are 100% compatible.
