I just bought an x-fi usb, and it gives me a crackling noise (as do other usb soundcards) when plugged directly into my laptop. Plugging it into my powered usb hub fixes this problem, however after a few minutes of playing music/sound, i get a kernel panic.

The kernel panic will not happen when plugged directly into the computer, but as I said, the sound is crackly for some reason.
Reading the official mac messageboards it seems some macbook air users have this problem as well, but they have it even using the built in usb ports. Wondering if this is a power issue?

I really hope I can fix this as I had to custom order it and no refunds sad.gif

How did you get a background behind The boot process?

it's not the boot process, that's just my wallpaper. because hackintoshes dont have pram, there's no place to save kernel panics that happen after boot. so using debug=0x100 as a darwin boot option just prints the kernel panic to screen.

This is a common problem for real macs too. I read about this on the apple.com support forum.

I think it's caused by not being able to draw enough power from the hub. So just plug it directly into your USB port, not hub.

It's weird that it can't draw enough power even when the hub is externally powered with an adaptor. I switched back to my old soundcard in the meantime because the clicks are really annoying when the x-fi is plugged directly.
