Full Version: Bootloader issue

Hi everyone! First, Sorry! if this question is already answered! I tried searching but didn't manage to find any info.

Well, my question might be ridiculous.

A bit of pre-history: I have Win Xp and Leo4allv3 both installed on the same hdd with Acronis OS selector as bootloader. After defragmentation of the hdd OS selector stopped working (this is a know issue). I decided to reinstall OS selector and after that MBR became really {censored}ed up smile.gif In the os selection window it showed only OSX and boot from floppy. I searched the forum and found the info on recovering MBR via mrbfix. I did that.

Right now I have Darwin as bootloader and OSX as the first os in chain. All I want is to restore my XP bootloader and delete Darwin since I want to reinstall osx on the separate hdd.

Should I just delete the whole partition with osx ? Will this restore winxp bootloader?

Sorry once again if this extremely lame question.

Thanks in advance.

I have not tinkered with xp in a while but if you are able to boot into it then you might want to try msconfig and see if you can fix it from the boot tab....
in vista if you boot using the install disk there is an option to repair startup problems but am not sure if xp had this option....
anyway good luck.

You should be able to recover the MBR from the XP install disc.
Just hit R when the installer starts and log in to your windows installation.
It's been a while since I have messed around with XP, so I'm not entirely sure if the right command to use is fixmbr or fixboot, but using both commands won't destroy anything, except for non-windows bootloaders.
Help for using those commands and windows recovery console can be found here (link to microsoft's help and support site)
