Anyone know if it will be possible to put an Intel chip (upgrade if/when they come in the future) in the new (or old) g4/g5 macs?
Sorry if its a stupid question.

wow. you won't be able to put an intel processor inside an already powerpc mac. the intel processors have an entirely different motherboard and layout than the powerpc. you would have to make or buy a new computer if you wanted an intel mac

It's actually not an entirely impossible idea, but completely impractical. The amount of glue logic that would be necessary would be costly, and the performance hit would be great. Not to mention that the PPC Macs firmware would need to be changed to EFI, and the TPM issues that would arise.

Because of the TPM issues, such an upgrade would need to be from Apple (when hell freezes), or approved by Apple (around the same time Steve Jobs licenses OSX to Dell). Even without the technical barriers, this licensing issue alone makes an x86 upgrade extremely unlikely.

WRONG !

It's a completely impossible idea .
PPC chips are not swappable with x86 ones cause of the arch : its big Endian VS little Endian ....much more than a socket difference..
Guys , lets start using google and "do your homeworks" before answering questions with such misinformations...
