Christmas is coming up, and I'm wondering if I should get a real Mac. Then I can change my Hackintosh (Dell Vostro 1400) back into a regular PC. What do you think? Should I get a Mac? And why or why not?

i think the whole idea of osx86 is to let people in the wonderful world of Mac OSx till they get their hands on 1 or can afford the real thing.

personally i think every1 here openly would love to own a mac, that is if it can give them the power they need at a price they can afford

there are tons of petty luxuries we are missing out with our hackintosh, kinda like the way you first felt after using windows all your life and using Leopard for a day

its the little things that make you enjoy you mac even better
1. Auto update with no hassle
2. some windows running Apps will work like a charm
3. solid Driver support
4. Those In-built Keyboard functions and Trackpad stuff (which you can easily overlook, but make computing easier)

you should deff get it esp the Mac Book pro

I agree, if you can afford one now, you should def buy it!! If you like it on your Dell then go buy the real thing!!

Thanks for the advice, now I wish that Christmas would come sooner... wacko.gif

Now, should I go for the Pro or Air?

The Air very clearly is a secondary computer. It's not meant to be your main computer. Both the MacBook and the MacBook Pro make for a great main computer. (Plus the Dell for gaming, viruses etc.) I'd first weigh the MacBook Air against the MacBook, and if you end up at the MacBook because it's more complete, then weigh that against the MBP.

It really depends on your personal preference.

Air: REALLY light and ultra portable, but no cd drive. So if your on the go, no cd support.

Pro: This is what I would get. Big screen, Good graphics, Mem, and a better CPU. (im talking about the notebook)

Like i said, it really depends on what you want out of it.
I suggest looking the specs up and deciding off that.

I went to Apple.com and looked at the MacBook Pro and Air. Plus I talked to my friend (he's a Mac lover and user), and he recommends the Pro. I personally like the Pro. I was drooling while I looked it up smile.gif . So I'm left to wait until Christmas... Thanks for the advice!

I would go and get a real Mac. Hackintoshes are never as good as the real thing. With a new Mac, you won't get any bugs or driver problems. You'll be able to update the software without fear, plus it'll look awesome =)

I've been drooling over a Mac for some time now. Waiting for the right time to buy one. Seeming as I just bought a house, I cannot afford one right now. (so damn expensive) I have 4 desktop pc's ranging from P4 to 6400+ dual core. So far I've managed to get Osx86 installed but it screws up during personalization after startup. I'm always coming across deals on Mac's on craigslist.com but i'm either too late to respond, or don't have the cash.

Anyhow, I would say go for it. But check around at some small computer shops or advertising sites before forking out over a grand for one. You could come across some good deals like this one that i missed. http://indianapolis.craigslist.org/sys/964304041.html

I have a MacBook Pro 2.33GHz (and will always continue with Apple Laptops), a I have a G5 dual 2.3GHz, and my hack mac. Prior to my hack mac I was considering buying a Mac Pro, but for what I do the Mac pro is quite over the top. I love owning apple computers and hardware, however they do not make a desktop computer for me.
At work however I have a Mac Pro.

I agree, it took me about 2 weeks to install OS X perfectly, and another month to update to 10.5.6 I get kernel panic/other .kext errors. Somehow, Macs look a lot more streamlined and pretty that PCs.
