Full Version: Trying to update from iAtkos 10.5.4 to 10.5.5

I have a Dell XPS m1730. I installed using iAtkos 10.5.4 DVD. I installed checking the following boxes to customize.

iATKOS v4i Main System
Darwin Bootloader
Stock Files
AppleACPIPlatform.kext
Kernel 9.4.0

Drivers
VGA
nVidia
Nvinject
256MB
512MB
nVidiaLaptop

System
SATA

Using the above settings I was able to successfully boot to the OS X desktop.
I then attempted to update to 10.5.5 using the below guide (my notes are in red):

Open Finder and navigate to /System/Library/Extensions/

Open Terminal

Type sudo -s in Terminal
{password} [enter]

Copy paste this into Terminal

while sleep 1; do rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext; done [enter]

Open the .dmg UPDATER file and install

When the install finishes DO NOT click REBOOT!

Go back to your Finder window and make sure AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext is not there. It was not there.

Go back to the Terminal and do Ctrl + c

Type this in Teminal

open -a TextEdit [enter] TextEdit did not open. Opened the file using nano.
\

In TextEdit Open the file /System/InstallAtStartup/scripts/1

Modify the line

/System/Library/Extensions/Dont Steal Mac OS X.kext This line was not present

to

/System/Library/Extensions/dsmos.kext

Save the file.

I then restarted the computer. On the first reboot it automatically restarted, on the second reboot it locked up.

I am able to boot to a desktop if I boot using the option -x. If I go to about this mac it shows "version 10.5.5"

I am not sure what to do at this point. Is there a way to find out why it will not boot into normal mode?

I have attached a file which shows information about the computer.

Thanks for any help.

I have the same problem as you. I thought it would be easy, but then I remember that this was me and nothing is easy.

The good news is that I backed up all my files.

My computer just shows they gray screen for 1 second and then restarts. If I use -f -v it displays a bunch of text, but it still restarts. -x or -s restarts the system as well.

What was working:

iATKOS v4i Main System
Darwin X86 for MBR (non-EFI)
ToH Kernel 9.2.0
APIC Driver
Software Update Enabler
OHR
Laptop Battery
Atheros 5005eg

Bluetooth wasn't starting at boot-up, which is why I wanted to see if 10.5.5 fixed it.

It is a SSE2 system and has basic VGA graphics.

SSE2 - you need a different kernel, you also need to restore your system.kext, applesmbios.kext, and all the kexts which are custom from a backup of your extensions folder. If you're not sure just restore the entire thing!

I probably should have done this to select the correct things to install/upgrade.

But, since re-installing 10.5.4 solved my problems, I will not need to upgrade.
