I got inspired by this post:

to do a conversion of an old G4 i have standing. What surprised me about !Shaun!'s build is that it seems he's got room for all of the I/O-ports *without* losing any expansion slots.
He's doing the mod in a Quicksilver case. This has, to the best of my knowledge, 5 expansion ports. The Yikes/Sawtooth case has a bigger IO-panel and only 4.
-Does this mean that I can mount my card a little lower than !Shaun! or would I lose an expansion port/some IO ports?
-If I can mount it lower, would I avoid some of the space-issues regarding clearance around the DVD?
I'll be using these parts:
-Asus P5Q-EM/Asus P5QL-EM
-4GB Ballistixx DDR2-6400 (CAS 4)
-PowerColor Radeon HD4670 (in a while)
-a silent but efficient CPU cooler
-3-4 120/140mm MIST low-noise fans
I already have:
-The G4 Yikes! Case
-Seagate 7200.10 750GB PATA
Now to power this baby I'm thinking about a modular solution (less clutter):
-Antec NeoPower 420 HE
The choice of this PSU is based on my preferences of:
-low noise
-expandability (more drives in particular)
-steady voltages (for OC'ing)
-placement of connection and powerswitch
-fan arrangement
I want to turn this G4 into a quiet powerhouse. An important component in doing this is a low-noise PSU. It is important that the PSU has an in-line venting arrangement. Some newer designs use a side-mounted fan of a larger diameter (often 120mm) This one uses a rear-mounted 80mm. The thermal design of the G4 case uses this kind of airflow by default (Mac PSU). The newer design *would* be OK (maybe even great) if it sucked from the topside (when placed horisontally) and had the connections on the left hand side. However most PSUs using this design have the connections on the right hand side, bummer. The Antec PSU is a good performer and supposedly very quiet. It is a Fortron-Source design reworked by Antec.
I'll run the CPU stock or mildly overclocked to begin with (maybe 2.8GHz) but I'd like to have a go at 3+GHz. Also I'd like the opportunity to chuck in a better GPU later.
What do you guys think? Any help/pointers would be greatly appreciated.
