Hi there,

i saw it on Youtube. A PowerPC 9600 running OSX.
I would like that too rolleyes.gif

Just as a fun project.

I own a PowerPC 9600 with some little modifications wink.gif :
- Sonnet Crescendo 500 Mhz G3 with 1 MB L2 Cache (hopefully i will get a Sonnet 1 Ghz G4 soon)
- Sonnet Tempo Adapter which offers 2 IDE Channels at 133 Mhz, 2 x USB 2.0 ports, 2 x Firewire 400 ports
- Seagate IDE HD with 80 GB 8Mb Cache, 7200 RPM
- LG IDE DVD Player/Writer
- Apple SCSI CD Player (12x) needed because Mac OS installations won't run from the IDE ports on this system
- Original Apple PCI Graphics Card with 4 MB
- Formac Proformance PCI 16 MB Graphics Card
- 704 MB RAM

At the Moment the System runs well with Mac OS 9.2.2 but especially Internet Browsing is too slow and not very stable (using iCab)

I own a full version of Tiger (10.4) and Leopard (10.5)

Questions:
- Is it really possible to get OSX on the system showed above?
- Is it possible with 10.4, or 10.5 or will i need an earlier version?
- How can i get it run. Any hint will help me?
(Please note: i'm familiar to OS 9, OSX but unfortunately not to Unix.)

Thanks!

For older Macs "Low end Mac" should almost become your bible.

Articles like this one will help you out:

At the end of the day I *think* we both know that it is time to move on. I really can't advise you spending $10 on your "project" as I/you can buy G4 PowerMacs, used, for $100 (if you look) that will easily run Tiger, Leopard with some upgrades. But, you are going to do, what you want to, poke around for a while at Low End Mac.

Thanks for the reply.
Yes, you're absolutely right.
This is just a fun project with no focus on cost an time.
I started that because i bought this PPC 9600 MP brand new in 1996 when i startet my own business. So it's a kind of child to me. For my daily business i own a MacBook Pro.
There's also a PC - so if there's enough time i'll try to get OSX on it.

Back to the PPC. I've found something interesting for all users of old world PPC Macs that would like to run OSX on it. It's an application called XPostFacto.

This is the link to the app and documentation
