So ive been looking into this for a while now but whenever i even mention the word hackintosh i get made fun of and warned. Do they work just like a real macks for what im going to be using it for? Final Cut Pro etc.. Ive heard drivers are hard to find and updates can ruin this? Is there any way i can make a strong hackintosh?

I can't really comment on the MB. FWIW as far as I can tell one with intel P35 chipset and the ICH9 southbridge, seems to be the most compatible with the least amount of hassle, but they can be hard to find/expensive.

There's an OSx86 wiki. It's probably your best guide.

This should be a good choice. The 8800 GT seems to be very compatible, though there's apparently some glitch if you try to use it with an OSX 10.5.3 or 10.5.4. Neither should be a currently shipping version I believe.

Should be fine, some motherboards have been problematic with multi-core procesors, but that seems to largely be a thing of the past.

It's definitely a good idea to have more than 1 HD for making a Hackintosh. Especially if you plan to dual boot with windows. It can also be very useful to have an external HD that you could hook up to another mac, to "Pre-configure" the OSX installation with all the hacks and mods you'll need. As, it can be tricky trying to get the computer to the point where you can actually get anywhere with installing OSX.

A sata optical drive is a very good choice. The IDE are much more problematic.

IF you are lucky, it can be a relatively smooth experience, but there it is far from certain that you will have a smooth experience, no matter how experienced or knowlegeable you are. It is likely to require a fair amount of medling with and updating anything on the machine (hardware or software) can be problematic. I would not recomend going with a hackintosh, if your future is going to depend on it and you have no backup machines you can resort to.
