Full Version: Sluggish when back from sleep?

Hi, I've just recently bought a new PC, specs listed below. I've managed, thanks to a lot of research in the forum, to do a perfect vanilla install.

Everything seems to work fine (all cpu-cores, sound, ethernet, disks, gfx etc.) but I've got a minor issue with sleep and I'm wondering if this is a known problem and if there is any fix for it.

My install, as I said, is a complete vanilla install + kexts for my machine. I booted the retail 10.5.4 install disk with the help of boot-321, installed retail, booted system and installed kexts+chameleon.

My problem is the following. I'm able to sleep the system with no problems at all and it goes to sleep very fast and shuts down fans, disk and everything. I'm also able to wake the computer with the power button on my machine and it wakes up fine and I can use the system again. The problem is that when it's back from sleep the system is very sluggish.

It's hard to explain exactly but when I move the mouse around it'll get stuck and lag behind every few seconds and behave kind of sluggish. This only happens when it's back from sleep, never on first boot.

I've tried to disconnect and connect the mouse (usb) and that doesn't fix the problem.
I've checked with Open GL Extension Viewer's tests and there is no problems with the graphic, I still get a lot of FPS on the tests after wake from sleep.

The only thing I've noticed is some strange messages in Console.app. A lot of log messages from the kernel saying something like:
CODE
11/4/08 12:53:34  kernel test handlereport
11/4/08 12:53:34  kernel the 0 position is 2, len = 8
11/4/08 12:53:34  kernel the 1 position is 0, len = 8
11/4/08 12:53:34  kernel the 2 position is 0, len = 8
11/4/08 12:53:34  kernel the 3 position is 0, len = 8
11/4/08 12:53:34  kernel the 4 position is 0, len = 8
11/4/08 12:53:34  kernel the 5 position is 0, len = 8
11/4/08 12:53:34  kernel the 6 position is 0, len = 8
11/4/08 12:53:34  kernel the 7 position is 0, len = 8

I don't know if this is related to my problem (sluggishness). A fast google search reveals that this seems to have something to do with the macalley keyboard and driver that I do have but the same sluggishness happened before I installed their driver.

My computer:
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3, P45
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400 2,66GHz
MEM: 8 GB 6400 DDR2
GFX: Nvidia GeForce 9800 GTX+
HDD: SATA drive
DVD: SATA DVD-drive

Anyone else noticed the same behaviour and is there any known fix for the problem?

No, no IDE devices att all. SATA set to AHCI in bios and everything connected is one SATA HDD and one SATA DVD.
Must be something else.

I've now done a complete wipe and reinstall of my system to try and find what's causing the problem.

Everything worked fine when the computer came back from sleep until I installed drivers for my Nvidia GeForce 9800 GTX from this thread http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=132089

Seems that my problem has something to do with these driversl. My GFX works very very well before I try to sleep with QE and everything thanks to the drivers, they only seem to cause some sluggishness after the computer comes back from sleep.

I guess there is not much I can do other than hoping for some new and updated drivers that fixes the problem?

Hi Rotmos,

I have not suffered the same problem as you but you may need to hold on for 10.5.6 and hope those drivers do not cause you the same problem. One thing I have noticed is that if I connect an Apple pro mouse then sleep, it will not work at all after waking the computer even though it is seen in system profiler. Re-plugging does not work either. As this is not the mouse I normally use, it's not a problem. I normally use a Logitech Revolution mouse and this works perfectly. Have you access to another mouse?
