are there any problems with it and osx like video drivers or sleep or sound or wifi? does it boot fast and is it responsive?
SticMAC™
"are there any problems?:"
video drivers: the install package includes the kext to get it up and running
sleep: No sleep yet, some at http://www.aspireoneuser.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=14 is working on it
sound: with the right kext, Autoswitching output, Internal MIC, there is an option to have the plugin MIC working but it has some feedback so I removed it!
wifi: I have a box full of BCM94311 Wifi's, so although i've been able to get the Atheros working(with a bit of sweat) I always use BCM
does it boot fast?: both Leopard and XP takes about 15-25 seconds to load
responsiveness?: It doesn't lag, I installed it's maximum memory, 1,5GB as the missus wanted XP on it first and not Linpus Linux!

I also added Vooddo_beta2 kernel and system.kext so there is no issue with USB plugin devices, PowerManagement.bundle for the battery meter and options, etc

so everything works perfect? hows the boot time and overall responsivness?

MSI Wind is the most compatible and has the most information on running OSX. That's what I plan on going with if I buy a netbook. Wifi works but is not recognized as airport. Sound works but not audio plugs. That's about it though. Sleep works great. Youtube has all kinds of videos of people putting it on their computers.

ASUS N10J is real much supported
wildseal2003
i heard the dell mini has few problems also. are there any others that are fully supported? what about ones that you can automatically update through apple?
Ruddy
wildseal2003: I believe the updating through apple part largely depends on what type of install you perform.

I was interested in finding the best laptop with comparable specs to the macbook pro's that have decent compatibility with osx86.

Hey Nick14 did you have to do anything extreme to get the HP 6820s to run osx86, or did it work pretty well off the install? Also which install did you use?

specialbuddy - some of those MSI Wind notebooks look pretty good, lightweight and a lot of power... I will have to look into this more- the GX620-038US looks pretty good with 2.4ghz intel centrino 2 nvidia geforce 9600m gt. Has anyone found any laptops with comparable specs?

You got the 5007eg in it to work? I thought that wasn't supported in OSX86 yet?
wildseal2003
anymore suggestions? i dont think the asus n10j is compatible at all.

I don't have one (I've got an Acer Aspire One, U need to change wifi) but the specs on the Lenovo S10 look really good. 10.2 inch monitor, Broadcom wireless, 945 chipset, GMA 950 video. Looks like a breeze. Don't know about sound tho.

The Wind may be the easiest path to OSX on a netbook.

It has a dedicated installation iso, a support forum and easily updates to 10.5.5 by reinstalling the video kexts. Almost everything is working on this 6-cell Wind I'm typing on with the exception of sound input in and hibernate. I replaced the new 802.11n card, though it worked (using a manufacturers utility as an ethernet device) with a Gigabyte N300 for native airport support.

Headphone output is now working with some help located here: http://forums.msiwind.net/mac/
