i was wondering what should i do if the apple dvd playback software doesn't work and that my computer needs a software decoder to play back dvds? Is there third party software with built in software decoder to play dvds.

well either it doesn't work or my dvd playback is incredibly slow, because i waited for a good 5 min. for mplayer to load the dvd, and nothing happened.

There's always VLC for watching ripped DVDs. You could rip them with Mac the Ripper then watch them.
