Full Version: Cannot Display Over 1024x768 Without VGA

Good afternoon guys. Having finally got Leopard up and running on my laptop I've decided to start fixing all the small issues that plague a clean install. The first for me is the resolution on my laptop monitor; Leopard will only allow it to display as high as 1024x768 when infact the standard output should be 1280x800.

I've tried passing in "Graphics Mode"="1280x800x32" on the advanced startup prompt but still no luck. The two weird things are that Leopard will happily display 1900-and-something on my monitor at work through the VGA, and it will accept me passing in a Graphics Mode parameter of 800x600x32 for the laptop monitor but, as I say, no higher than 1024x768.

Windows identifies the chipset as "Mobile Intel® 945 Express Chipset Family" and this appears to be installed OK in Leopard (output is fine through VGA).

Any tips? I've been searching here and The Google but to no avail.

Cheers!

Any ideas? I've tried activating Quartz GL but still no luck. I've also tried scaling down the correct resolution (to 1024x640) but this doesn't work either.

This thread seems promising but I need to know what he means by "the kexts of the DARWIN PROJECT x86". Can anyone help me out?!

66 views and no suggestions? It's probably something really simple, any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!

Hey, i've seen this kind of problem before, in fact i have the same one myself with an output of 1440x900. But i always install SwitchResX and make a custom resolution for that.

Thanks for the advice kozlowski! I'll check it out!

No luck!! sad.gif I can define the custom resolutions but they never appear in the Display settings. I've tried setting them as standard and scaled but nothing ever gets added...

The Screen was running at 1280x800 with QE (Quartz Extreme) and CI (Core Image).

Maybe there is hope yet?!?! I've got hold of a Leo4all DVD so will try a fresh install over the weekend.

No more ideas in the mean time anyone?

i've got the same problem, as itsmeltc, i've already tried SwitchResX , but didn't work for me, the resolution is still 1024x768. my graphic card is an nvidia 8600gts.

intel gma 945??

welltry the GMA950 kexts or the GMA X3100 kexts...

mine is a intel gma 965 and im using the X3100 kexts biggrin.gif

also, QE/CI wont work, neither will switch resX until you install the correct kexts for your video card biggrin.gif coz atm, you are running on VESA graphics smile.gif

also, do remember that if you install the wrong kexts, your display wont work after booting into osx... you will need to boot with -s and remove the offending kexts (alternatively, if you are dual booting with vista, just use macdrive to access your Leo partition and delete the offending kexts biggrin.gif)

hope that helped biggrin.gif

Thank you!! I'll try find the X3100 kexts!

When I'm installing OS X, can I only choose one graphics card driver? Because at the moment I just choose them all. I guess that's not the right thing to do?i!

its not the right thing to do tongue.gif if you ask me, dont install any video drivers during the primary installation... install them after you got the installation working atleast biggrin.gif
