Mac OS X 10.5.5 has been released and can be downloaded through software updater or Apple's
website. 10.5.5 is fairly extensive and the full release notes can be found
here. While this update can be considered 'safe', its good to follow guides such
this one to prevent AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext from breaking your install. AMD users can use the AMD Software Patcher for a safe installation.

Installed through Software Update.
Absolutely no problems, apart from a few kext changes (ATIRadeonX1000.kext). Can be solved by re-inserted device and vendor ID's into the Info.plist file.
By the way - I use boot-132.

Hey,
For AMD users will we have to reinstall the 9.4 Modbin kernel / System Kext or will the AMD Software Updater do that for us.

Updated via downloading the combo update and following netkas's guide for 10.5.3/4 - first boot was a white apple logo and I left it spin for about 10 min, shut off the system, powered back on and got to the desktop - all I had to re-add was my audio for the alc888 and re-enter my wireless settings

I am using iDeneb 10.5.4, and have told the AMD Software Update to go ahead and get the 10.5.5 update. I hope it will work decently and prevent the crashes I've seen with the new QuickTime player and iTunes. Also following the instructions for AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext, unless that's not needed? System is an Asus A8V-XE with Geforce 7100 GS (edit) and an Athlon 64 3200+.

Advice for those with ASUS P5B or similar 965-based motherboards.... At least restore your original AppleAHCIPort.kext and IOAHCIFamily.kext before attempting to reboot or you will be stuck booting off of your install DVD and using terminal to fix the mess. Apparently the new ones don't play nice with the ICH8R, as the kext flat out fails to load, and ta-da, no HDD access. Of course, if your lucky like I am, you actually have a backup of these kexts.

Well, I tried to use the AMD Software Update, but after it extracted and apparently successfully patched the update package, it just sat there doing nothing when it said it was repackaging. I have the delta update downloading, and am wondering if the "AMD Software Patcher" mentioned at the beginning is another utility that will patch that for me, or what I can do at this point?

worked fine for me on my crappy p4m800pro-m mobo...cant use vanilla kernels on mine but modbins 9.4 boots great! I updated from 10.5.4 to 10.5.5. Two reboots, qe/ci everything ok on my super crappy nvidia 6200 AGP! Hahaha. Used netkas method of course...plus i deleted all ati* kexts and x3100 kexts and the 950 ones too before i reboot since i dont need them. Didnt have to change the dont steal mac os x cause it isnt there in the 10.5.5 316 mb update. I hope modbin or someone hacks the 9.5 kernel for us non-vanilla mobo people.

That can happen sometimes when using the ASU. Sometimes I quit and try again, and then the updates install.

Ok, so I figured I'd give this a go - went with the Combo updater from 10.5.4 using the guide linked above (as per 10.5.3 update).
There was an entry in the install at startup script for Don't Steal MacOS X.kext, which I changed to dsmos.kext (as per the guide).
However, on reboot, the system could not find the root partition.
I then changed my SATA mode to AHCI in bios (was set to IDE - Enhanced, which worked fine up until now), and it now boots. However, Sound, Network (LAN) and Video (partial - see below) were hosed.
Re-installed the Taruga AppleHDA for 1988b chipsets, sound now working.
Re-installed the NV41 package - still no QE, and System Profiler reports the Core Image is rendering in Software. Not resolved yet.
Networking is still borked (wireless works though).
OSX install type: Leo4All PPFv2 upgraded to 10.5.4 before 10.5.5 combo update.
Board: ASUS P5K-E
CPU: Core2Quad Q6600
Mem: 4Gb (2x2Gb 800Mhz)
Video: nVidia 8600GT/512Mb
Network: wireless - rtl8187; wired - yukon marvel
So, I'm still looking for a fix for the network and video issues.
EDIT: Fixed Network issue by following the instructions in this
post.
EDIT2: Video now fixed (QE works) with NVInstaller v.52

NO problems with asrock conroe 1333, using the intelpowershitmanagement treat...

all ok!! EDIT: i had to reput AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer.kext from previous backup for having fully working resolution for the iNTELGMA950 inttegrated video card on my Asrock conroe 1333
For my asus for a moment i wont update..because logic pro is working fine, im afraid and i will wait looking on logicpro forums!

I updated my 2nd comp from 10.5.2 with 10.5.5 Combo update.
I tried to follow instructions given in this thread -
http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=107340.
But the installer decided to reboot itself automaticly during the installation - so i couldnt finish the instructions and now its kernel panic about PowerManagement kext.
What now?
EDIT:Tried to boot with -s, didnt manage.
Tried to use terminal from booting up with Installing disc and use those commands:
rm -R /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext
rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions.mkext
rm -R /System/InstallAtStartup
No file or dir

Any ideas?

Same deal as me, P5K-E & Q6600.
Had to reinstall Taruga drivers for audio and NVInstaller .52 for QE & CI
Don't use the RTL8187 so didn't bother fixing that up.
I also replaced AppleSMBIOS.kext
I also noticed while in verbose mode that it said 64bit activated! That's awesome! I wasn't sure if it was 64bit in 10.5.4 but now I know it is 64bit in 10.5.5
Don't ignore the AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement part of the guide, you need to do this for 10.5.5 I know some of you haven't needed to do it for 10.5.4 or 10.5.3 but you need to for 10.5.5
Good luck!

Went smooth on a P35-DS3L / Q6600 / GF 8600GT. I use AppleIntelCPUdisabler and SMBIOSenabler, so I only had to delete Don't steal Mac Os kext.
Sound, QE/CI working with EFI strings and Taruga's HDAenabler, no issues.

Upgrade issue!
I had a perfectly working system with 10.5.4 and since i am using gigabyte ds4 rev 2.
I software upgraded, as i did without any problems from 10.5.3 to 10.5.4
Now however, when the upgrade asked me to restart, it began installing the upgrade, but before it had time to finish, the computer shut down.
My problem now is, that my system reboots before going into the gray screen with the apple logo.
I want to know, if there is any way to go back to my previous system configuration or any other way to resolve this issue?
Any help would be appreciated greatly!

Just a quick not to let you know that the update went fine on my system. I removed AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext before reboot, and re-modded some kexts after reboot (graphics and wifi), and everything works fine again.

If it says no file or dir when you boot off the install disk it is because you need to amend your paths for the rm commands to be /Volumes/DISKNAME/System/Library/Extensions.... etc
Substitute DISKNAME for whatever you called the disk in OS X. You can check it is there first from the terminal by typing 'diskutil list' once booted from the install DVD.

A big big thank you to all of you that have made this possible !!!
I was running Kalyway 10.5.2 vanilla with some minor changes to the default install.
Downloaded the comboupdate and followed the guide. ALL GOOD !!!!
If you can not edit the contents of the InstallAtStartup folder, just copy it to your desktop make the changes and then copy it back (providing your admin password) and you arte good to go.

Basically I had the same problem as you, I think that it is because the script provided does not work for this version (at least for me, there is no InstallAtstartup file or folder created and the system crashes before installing all updates).
I tell you how I did in order to repare the installation, VERY EASY.
1 - Run your bootable osX dvd of preference.
2 - On Utilities, go to disk utility and check where your main partition for Leopard is sitting (my case is /Volumes/Dani ..... yours will be something else instead of "Dani". Take note and close Disk Utility
3 - In Utilities fire up a terminal.
4- Issue this command ----
rm - r /Volumes/YOURVOLUMENAME/System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext
5 - Exit and restart.
6 - You are done.
BTW mate, I am not doing anything new here, simply following what this forum is telling me to do...... I think you should try "a bit harder" before to asking, it gets people crazy when lazy "users" simply try to find the easy solution. (nettiquette? is that the right spelling?).... anyway....
FOR THE RECORD, I WOULD SUGGEST TO DELETE MANUALLY (or confirm that it is deleted before re-starting the computer) the AppleIntelCPUPowerMAnagement.kext, so anyone doing the update saves the time I lost.
I hope this helps, and that any of what I am explaining here is wrong/breaks your computer...... I am a newbie anyway/.

Quoted for truth. I had the same problem, so instead of hopping right on here before trying anything, I did the obvious. I figured that my MacOS partition was still there, so all I needed to do was boot from the install DVD so I could get a terminal prompt. From there on out, it was as easy as removing the offending file.
Even though it's not, I think all of us need to realize that OSX86 is sort of like Linux, it's hard to maintain a working install if you're averse to getting your hands dirty in terminal.
