Think MacBook screen, possibly a bit smaller, in glass with iPhone-like, but fuller-featured multi-touch. Gesture library. Full Mac OS X. This is why they bought P.A. Semi. Possibly with Immersion's haptic tech. Slot-loading SuperDrive. Accelerometer. GPS. Pretty expensive to produce initially, but sold at "low" price that will reduce margins. Apple wants to move these babies. And move they will. This is some sick {censored}. App Store-compatible, able to run Mac apps, too. By October at the latest.
SourceThis looks very nice, hope the price isn't too high

That's not a tablet.
Tablets are shaped like a traditional laptop, have a keyboard, and the screen swivels around to enter writing mode.
Slates, on the other hand, do not have a keyboard, have everything built into the screen, and are missing many features expected on a full PC. That's what this is.

Looks cool, but I really don't see it being practical compared to a standard laptop or tablet.
Especially if the price is equal to or more than a MacBook Pro...

I'll get one if it has a stylus, the main advantage to the touchscreen is being able to write/draw on the screen. If Apple doesn't release one by the end of semester, I'm just going to get a Modbook.

this does look nice to bad apple was not the first to do one Axiotron ModBook that used a MacBookPro.
Did not think Apple could do better on there own hardware used in the same way this will be a big hit for

This is neat, but I would buy a 21" Wacom Cintiq before I put down any money on something like this. As a designer, I appreciate having more screen real-estate rather than just portability.
This will be a very cool device though.

How is this thing supposed to be both OS X and App Store compatible?
If you want full OS X support you have to choose x86 processors, and iPhone applications only run on ARM processors.
There are only two ways to make this possible:
1) create a Rosetta-like software to translate ARM instructions, but seems pretty pointless to me
2) force developers to build their apps as universal binaries for both x86 and ARM platforms
Both solutions would require extra frameworks in order to properly run. The second one would achieve better performances, but it may cause problems to developers.
Moreover, this seems to me like a very important product for Apple's market strategy, so if something like this is going to be introduced, it will be announced at Macworld.

I can't remember the fine details, but that entire description of "Apple wants to move these babies. And move they will", I've read it before. I think a year ago...
So this could be a rehash of an old rumour, or something like that >_>

I'm thinking fake - where's the built-in webcam? Or is it just that the picture is so dark, you can't make the webcam out?

Zoom in, there is a grey circle on the top black bar, which should be the webcam...

wont happen this year.
Maxintosh
Sep 14 2008, 03:34 PM
I'm not so sure this won't come this year. Two reasons;
1) It has been verified by the same source that leaked about the wireless iTunes Store, and the iPhone itself a week before Apple debuted it.
2) On July 21, 2008 Apple CFO Peter Oppenheimer, during Apple's Q308 Financial Results Conference Call said "
We are working to develop new products that contain technologies that our competition will not be able to match. I cannot discuss these new products, but we are very confident in our product pipeline."
I'm betting that Apple announces an entirely new line up of laptops, including this new Tablet. They will have features that will blow all other laptops out of the water, and amazingly, will cost
less than the current line of laptops. If that were true then Apple might be getting into the avionics industry, as these new laptops would be flying off the shelves

Oh boy, dream on. Hey, if we are just going to talk about complete fantasies lets throw in the mac mini tower as well. How about a flexible iphone that you can wrap around your wrist powered by excessive back and forth wrist motion. It can be advertised as being powered by the playboy channel. HA!
