Just browsing thru Mac OSX Hints dot com, and came across a review for this AppleJack software. It looks to be a useful tool, especially for users of "custom Macs."

Selected quotes from the article:
"In its basic mode, AppleJack does five things (either as a group, or one by one): repair disks, repair permissions, clean up cache files, validate preference files, and remove swap files. You access these tasks through a text-based menu"
"an expert menu (press 'x' on the main menu) offers some additional options, including checking hard drive integrity, blessing the system folder, disabling auto login, and more"

plus it includes memtest, which I already use from single-user mode to check overclocking stability sometimes
I know most of this stuff can be done via command line in single-user mode, but offhand I can't recall the verbage for any of the operations but permissions repair and running memtest. BTW, this is free software... I'll give it a try later.

sounds useful to me.

Its cool, but you could do the same with a simple shell script that you run in single user mode.

If my memory serves me correctly, someone once said the same thing about one of your Applications.

Memory isn't serving you correctly, because the only "app" that was a shell script was the "PCWiz OS X Kernel Installer" which is now evolved to OSx86 Tools which is much more than a shell script my friend smile.gif

And to the OP, I didn't mean to hijack this topic, very sorry

Downloaded on my Macbook Pro. I install kexts like speedstep, some of which work on Mac's (from apple) so this is good for the times that my system will not boot. It's either this or I use the terminal on the install DVD.

For us non shell savvy folks Apple Jack is an awesome program, and it works well. Be careful though each time apple comes out with a new OS (Tiger, Leopard, Snow Leopard) Apple Jack seems to not work. In some cases I have seen it brick working Apple systems. Requiring an archived install.
