NC6000 NC8000
these laptops are one of the best hackingtosh it has an SSE2 prossesor , Ati mobilty 9600 64/128mb ac97 audio and firewire
everything works exept the grafics of leopard no qe/ci becouse ati was to lazy to devolep and i couldn't get the battery to be recongized reason is that the PC thinks it has 2 battery bays maybe an older bios can fix this need someone to try

i recomend the JaS 10.5.4 install disc with StageXnu kernel or the Boot-132 with this topic http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...23841&st=80

install guide from Yana209:

2-Installed OSx86:
a- Erased the drive using disk utility
b- customized the installation and chose only: StageXNU, AC97 Audio, ICH and PIIX controller, Artheros Wireless adapter (All thanks to Nick14).
c- Installation took around 25 minutes.
d-Rebooted the computer
e- choose the options -v -f
f- booting took 10 minutes to finish and then the all awaited welcome video started :-D

the wifi fix :Click to view attachment just remove the zip from it name and it will ask if you want it as zip or Kext and choose kext

Audio:Click to view attachment this just need to unpack

grafic: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...829&hl=9600 use 1280x1024 for less problems with the screen dont install the Frameworks they dont work just the kext

cardbus:http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=81036

Internal Broadcom :Click to view attachment Just extract it and copy it to /System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns and delete the 5701 kext else you wont get a mac adress

keyboard and mouse : http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...mp;#entry811362

This would be something interesting to do since i actually own nc6000, only problem i might have is maybe sluggish video as mine system only has 32MB video ram.
nickhe
it shouldn't be a problem i ran a 7500 with 32mb with out any problems
PaPeR_pLaNe
Well i managed to install kaliway 10.5.2 on my nc6000. I haven't test everything in the system just yet, but so far audio works, usb sort of works: when i insert usb key it wont detect it, but it detects it after reboot. dvd-rom works, ethernet (haven't test it), wi-fi doesn't work ive got atheros w500 internal card, tried few tutorials but it sort of detects it but can't turn on. Video is sluggish as i expected, mouse leaves small white square in some places.
nickhe
The audio works best with the on i uploaded the wifi is the same as mine but wright LSCPI in termail and post it here but everything should work the usb worked on mine the mouse squares come but if you put in in 1280x1024 mode it becouse alot less i got everything working exept the battery and grafic acceleration
PaPeR_pLaNe
i actually don't have lspci on my system sad.gif

Hi,
Glad to know there's a topic about NC6000 and one of the fellows already successfully installed Kalyway 10.5.2.
I had no problem in the installation and boot selection procedure but once I select the OS X partition, it starts loading and then gets stuck at the following last two lines:

MAC Framework successfully initialized
using 5254 buffer headers and 4096 cluster IO buffer headers

I have waited some 25 minutes, but no activity. I too have NC6000.

Any help is appreciated.

/Yasir

just tried it with option -f and it is showin a grey screen with dark grey apple logo on it and some circular animation...not going beyond it...
yana209
Update: Did a re-installation with the JAS SSE2 patch selected. Now another problem! After I select to boot the OS, after few scripting display it restarts automatically?

Infact it immediately restarts upon reaching that grey Apple logo screen
Nick14
you need to pick stageXNU KERNEL ,AC97 AUDIO, ICH AND PIIX CONTROLLER AND ARTHEROS WIFI NOTHING MORE
yana209
I have re-installed everything again. (i didn't know how to choose a different kernel at the start) so I chose kernel_9.2_sleep, and now I have tried all the kernels, but each time it will get take me to grey apple logo screen and a after a while a dialogue will tell me that I should restart my machine sad.gif
I couldn't find stageXNU Kernel in Kalyway 10.5.2 DVD. How to get that?

Thanks,
Nick14
try downloading JaS 10.5.4 it's better suited for NC6000,NC8000 becouseni had the samwe problem with kalyway
yana209
aaah. :-( so many wasted hours I guess...
Okay I shall download Jas 10.5.4 then, and let's see.
and there's no solution to my present problem?

Any place to download Jas 10.5.4 other than torrents? Torrents don't seem to work on my internet.
Nick14

yana209
Thanks! Will download and try to install this one now.

It would be so nice if you could elaborate a bit further on how to do the installation.

Which packages in which categories to check, which to uncheck. How long the install takes, how long the first boot takes. So people know they don't have to panic if it freezes or takes a long time. You could also state when something is obviously going wrong... (in case you know).

I always thought the installation was one of the most complicated things to actually get right.

Right now I am sitting in front of my NC6000/NC8000 waiting for it to boot for the first time. I've got a grey screen and I can see my mousepointer and move it around - but that's about it. It's been like this for a good 15 minutes, does that mean I can start worrying, or not?

It would be real nice to see few more details in this thread... thanks in advance!
Nick14
First Boot= 15min atleast with JaS 10.5.4 and boot-132 atleast on my and nickhes PC

2 boot after install = 10-20min

3 boot to 1million = 7-10 sec

and choose StageXnu kernel or sleep 9.2 and after that change to Voodoo 9.4 or 9.5 they work alot better and faster then other kernel
largo
Well, so far I am down with way more basic things. For example - my keyboard doesn't get detected after waiting 45 minutes for it to boot... any Ideas? Yes, this is a NC6000/NW8000...
Nick14
Keyboard wont get detected you will need an usb Keyboard and mouse the first time

download these http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...mp;#entry811362 drivers for the nc8000/nc6000 keyboard to get it working
largo
Okay, here is a progress report.

I got my Keyboard & Mouse working after installing the ApplePS2Controller, so thanks for the hint!

Fixed Network is working, Wireless still troubles me. Bootup time is 5 minutes, each and every time!

I don't know what it is with the bootup time, that is really annoying, what also is annoying that X11 doesn't work. I did install it, but when I try to launch it, it immediately fails.

So right now my prio #1 is bootup, then #2 X11. After that I'll try to get the Atheros working. By the way - why did you install that extra audio driver? Audio works for me a-ok after the install and when I install the other package named above my system won't boot...

Any Ideas about anything named above? Would be greatly appreciated...

largo
Okay, let's see. Another half day of work done.

I learned that it is important to install your drivers, even if you know you're not going to use the devices. I know now why my laptop kept hanging for 5 minutes at this point:

CODE
configd[55]: InterfaceNamer: timed out waiting for IOKit to quiesce

I needed to install the Cardbus drivers, which are linked to on the first page.

I also got the Atheros to work, but I needed the old Tiger drivers for this, they can be found here.

Now I'll see if I can find an X11 package and see if I can get it to work - after that I'll try and see what I can do about the QE/CI support for the ATI Mobility Radeon.

largo
More updates. I broke the Atheros again by doing the AirPort update from the AppleSoftwareUpdate. I tried to re-install the drivers, but it doesn't help. ;( I guess I have to re-install some kexts from the install disc - I just don't know which yet.

The X11 package that came with the JaS 10.5.4 was br0ken for me, kept crashing as soon as I launched it. I installed the X11 package from here and that did the trick. Yay!

Getting rid of the Mouse tearing artifacts with the Radeon still works as smooth as it did on Tiger, just make use of this nifty trick.

So far so good... I'll keep on working.
Nick14
Chun nan Cardbus will work 100%

And the X11 try using Voodoo kernel it supports more apps
largo
As written above, I managed to take care of all that and I am pretty much settled in. But I am beginning to see how much I am missing the QE/CI. No movies work, no multimedia... well I think I should look into that.
Nick14
i'm trying to Get Slice help use get qe/ci working on 9600

but try download OSX86 tools and activate Quatz GL

Btw Yana209 How did the installation go ??
largo
Ok, I enabled QuarzGL and it works as the system profiler states. Sill no movies with VLC though - even if I tell it to use the Quarz output...

Hrm, crap - we really need the QE and CI stuff.

Thank you very much for all of your guys help, I was able to intall JaS 10.5.4 on my NC 6000. I am a completely newbie and have takend a few days to read through and learn. I got the keyboard, mouse, audio working using the link at top but could not get the wirelss and ethernet to work. I install both of the .kext but still nothing.

I tired to do "write lspci" but it said lspci is not logged in.

I tired both the intel wirelss card and the Atheros................. Can someone please help me get internet connection up? Thanks so much.

Nick14

So I should download and burn an Ubuntu installtion disc? What exactly will write lspci slove? Please advice more, thanks.
Nick14
A ubuntu disc is always good to have and the lspci is a linux command which shows you all your hardware specs
yana209
Hi,
I just installed JaS 10.5.4.
The installation went smooth. I only selected stageXNU, AC97 drivers. After the first boot, now I see a grey screen with Apple logo and some round progress bars where after a while some square, probably a mouse pointer. I'm using a USB mouse, so probably that's not a mouse pointer. I have waited 50 mintues now on this screen. Don't know what's wrong.

Nick14
it should be booting up soon wait 10 more minutes then if it doesn't reboot the pc and you will also need an usb keyboard but it boot's acording to spec like min has a p-m 1.6ghz 2mb and 2gb ram
yana209
Well I waited for one hour and 30 minutes and then I got bored so I shut down laptop and went to sleep as it was already 6 in the morning. Of course I had many restarts to see if restarting could solve the problem.
System has 2Gb RAM and standard processor and 250GB HD, so I think it should boot. May be I will have to choose a different kernel at startup. How do I choose another Kernel? or any body to help with the present scenario.

thanks
Nick14
Well boot with -v -f and see where it stops and try to boot with stagexnu kernel
yana209
How do I boot with stagexnu kernel?

I only gave the option -v -f at the startup and it seems like keeps on repeating the line
still waiting for the root device

after the lines
dependency: com.apple.iokit.IONetworkingFamily(1.6.0)@0x210c2000
yana209
Finally!!!!!! I got it working now!!!!! So glad to see the nice welcome video :-D....

Presently I don't have a USB keyboard so I'm stuck at that stage. But I think I'll get that keyboard from office in some days. I have that keyboard support driver downloaded, I only don't know how to install. (I'm actually first time user of MAC with no experience).

I just did a re-installation and I'm going to post the steps I took from start till now.

DVD: JaS.OSx86.10.5.4.Client.Server.Intel.SSE2.SSE3.iso

1-Kept the BIOS at default settings
2-Installed OSx86:
a- Erased the drive using disk utility
b- customized the installation and chose only: StageXNU, AC97 Audio, ICH and PIIX controller, Artheros Wireless adapter (All thanks to Nick14).
c- Installation took around 25 minutes.
d-Rebooted the computer
3-Put the Gparted Live CD
a-Started with default settings
b-All the devices took a little time to show, once they did, I chose the Windows partition and right-clicked and selected 'Flags' and chose "boot"
c-exit (once the devices re-loaded after the change of configurations)
d-Rebooted
4-Computer booted to Windows Xp(that's what I already had)
a- edited boot.ini file and put Chain0 file in C: drive (the windows drive)
b-rebooted
5-choose OSX to boot
a- chose the options -v -f
b- booting took 10 minutes to finish and then the all awaited welcome video started :-D
c- right now it's stuck at "Before You Begin" asking me to connect USB keyboard which I don't have :-(

All the above procedure has been described in detail in Wiki, and crucial help from Nick14, I just made myself happy :-)

So what about this keyboard and touchpad thing? How do I install the drivers?

Thanks

EDIT: I meant I only wanted to know how to install these drivers. I have this ApplePS2Controller.zip downloaded.
Thanks
yana209
Anyone?

I tried the IOnetworkingfile on the first post and I got kernel panic, the machine will boot and then hang and tell me to restart. Try to startup with -v and -f option got the same reuslt. Ended up have to reinstall again.

i tried both of the wifi and ethernet fixes on the first post but still can;'t get them to work. Anyone acutally has it done using the same 2 files and it works? Please explain, thank you.
Nick14
i've done it but nc6000 and nc8000 uses 2 diffrent card Atheros 5212 or Iwi 2200
yana209
Hi Nick,

Thanks once again for your help. My trackpad and keyboard are working now.
Boot time is still around 20 min... need to do something about it... what should be causing this? and you mentioned about the ATI driver procedure...can you explain... and the time machine is not working actually...
Nick14
Did you install all the drivers on the start and the cardbus ?? and did you change your kernel to Voodoo ? the ati drivers only workes on tiger but i'm trying to port them to leopard
yana209
*embarrassed*

no, i didn't.....

but now i did install all those drivers and boot time is almost less than a minute ohmy.gif ohmy.gif ohmy.gif

by the way , what is voodoo and how do i change it?

yana209
Okay time machine is also working now!!!

The graphics some how seem very bad... the mouse tearing artifacts even though after employing the trick mentioned in one of the post are still not so better. When I click 'enter time machine' i have to manually move my mouse on whole desktop to actually view the virtual universe window... any improvement to this?

and thanks Nick for all your help...
Nick14
Try efi boot ??
yana209
Hi Nick,
sorry for my ignorance...but how? :-@
