Full Version: Could someone spec me a system for Logic Pro?

I want to spend about £400.

I will mostly be using it for Logic and will be getting a firewire audio interface soon.

I'll be using it with a 24" screen (maybe Dell?)

I've built computers before but never messed with the bios much. Would love to just have a simple fairly straight forward stable install.

I would like to add extra drives in the future and maybe dual boot with XP but right now I'm happy with a 250 gig drive.

I'd need to buy these parts in the UK and most people seem to link to US shops.

Right, so thinking of getting all this. Looking to change parts on the recomendations of people.

I'm not too sure about what RAM to get.

Also, is there anything else I'm missing? Do I need anything to attach the CPU?

Looks pretty good. Get some decent quality DDR2-800 or 1066 RAM. Then you will overclock nicely. Don't buy the cheapest stuff, but no need to buy the most expensive!

Appreciate the reply.

I've realised I don't need a great gfx card right now. Can anyone suggest a cheap one that works well in a Hackintosh? I can upgrade when I have more money. Most important things are MOBO and CPU right now.

Is that ram bad? I've been out of the PC game for so long I have no idea what to look for. edit: oops, could have sworn I pasted the ram in the second post.

I'm not going to be gaming, just using Logic.
Synaesthesia
Check the wiki for working graphics cards. There are many. An nVidia 7300 is a good choice.

Does it matter if I get the GT, GS or LE? There are loads of versions. I can only seem to find own brand value versions as well.

Thinking of getting the Dabs value one.

Well I ordered the GF 7300GT 256MB DDR2 PCIE TVO.

I've just been reading about QE and CI and I'm worried that Logic isn't going to run properly. I still can't quite work out what QE and CI are and what I have to do to make sure Logic works fine.
peebo
Right, well it seems like there's something seriously wrong with this 7300GT. At first I just thought it sucked for games and was crashing on the intros in XP but it crashes in 3 seconds when doing a AtiTool test and freezes my computer.

Looking for something else that's a bit better for games but still fairly straight forward for Hackintosh?

Any ideas? Need to get this quick. I was thinking about the GeForce 8600GT 1GB. Does all the different versions such as the HDMI version make a difference or do I just need to look for a 8600GT?
Synaesthesia
Don't get the 8600GT 1gb. Get a 512mb, or even 256mb! Why? Because more important than RAM amount, is RAM speed. The different versions don't really matter.

Another good choice is an ATI 2600 PRO or 2600XT.
