Hi there,

I have a few questions about Hackintosh's.

Is running Mac OS X on custom builds always going to be possible? I would hate to spend a few hundred quid on a really nice system only to find out I its no longer possible to install updates (i.e. Snow Leopard).

If you buy the right components, is it as easy to install Leopard on a hack as it is on proper Mac hardware?

If I had say £700 - could someone spec me a a nice beefy rig that would have no problems running OSX86? I play games occasionally so want a decent GFX but not the bleeding edge best. Really I am after what mobo to get as that seems to be the biggest issue?

Many thanks.

1. who knows. apple might shut us down or open up or just keep it the way it is. the futrue is not set in stone.

2. you still have to do a little work. here are the two easiest guides i've seen of late

3. it seems to me that the mobo is your most important buy before the proc and the gfx card. The intel board from my sig works well, as does many gigabyte boards and asus boards. look around in the buying advice forum for some thumbs up on peoples' builds.

Yes, I would highly recommend an Intel mobo with a Intel chipset, and an Intel Core 2 Duo/Quad processor. That way, (as far as I know), you can use the Vanilla Kernel with Apple updates.

Me, I have a nVidia board (which i see is pointless now because I'm not using SLI), and I HATE IT. I really should've gone with an Intel chipset.

Also, you should check the Hardware Compatibility List or some ideas -> http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/Main_Page - just scroll down to 'Hardware'

Hope this helps smile.gif
