Hello..
QUOTE
Customers who purchased Open Computing products with Leopard will receive a restore disc which will
- allow them to reinstall their OS directly from the Leopard DVD included with their computer.
- allow them to boot into the service console.

Psystar, the company that's
fighting back against being smacked down by Apple, has just decided to ship Leopard restore discs free of charge to their customers. If you remember, one of the (many) major problems with Psystar's machines was that you had to ship your box back to them if anything went wrong because their "hackintosh" approach to putting OS X on whiteboxes wouldn't
allow you using a regular Leopard disc. Is this going to help or hurt their case against Apple? We're thinking hurt, because now they're shipping a modified copy of Leopard, but our only knowledge of lawyering comes from Phoenix Wright 1-4.

Eh? The point is that they are sending out a disc which allows an installation of a retail Leopard disc, ie an unmodified version of Leopard so the conclusion should be entirely opposite to the one drawn above.
From Psystar: "...This utility will allow your Open Computer to boot from the native Leopard installation DVD"
I'd say Boot-132 (which is most likely what it is) has come to their rescue to a certain extent. Installing an unmodified Leopard disc has got to look better to legal minds than using hacked 'distributions'
Think about it, Psystar are now effectively saying "take our hardware, buy Leopard and use this legal boot CD...and this is what you get..." It could help them get off the hook

That disk has to be a bit more than just Boot-132. They have to make sure the users who install Leopard then install PC-EFI (they are still using PC-EFI right?), dsmos, and AppleCPUPMDisabler. It is ridiculous that they are doing this sort of thing and are not giving anything back, as far I have seen, to the developers that actually do all of this for them.

I for one cannot believe that Psystar is STILL selling Mac clones. I'm thinking that they're not exactly helping their case against Apple.

I'm neither supporting nor disapproving of Pystar here, that's not at all my point and that's also been argued extensively elsewhere. "It is ridiculous that they are doing this sort of thing and are not giving anything back, as far I have seen, to the developers that actually do all of this for them." On a personal note, I understand that view and tend to concur, but it means nothing from a legal perspective
Since selling specific hardware, buying Leopard, downloading/modifying Boot-132, and using Chameleon are not illegal AND pointing out what is possible with these elements is not illegal either, it makes a prosecution look very difficult, if not impossible
And they're not actually selling 'Mac Clones' they're selling PCs that are able to run OS X natively. In a way carrying on selling puts them in a better light because stopping is like admitting guilt, rather like running from the scene of a crime

Hello,
We could also make another game:
What will Apple stole to GNU/Linux community in the future?
They are all thieves: Microsoft; Apple; Dvix;...
What I know... is that we don't know even if we believe to

I think we'd all be really interested to see what this disc really is. presumably it's freely distributable, so I see no reason not to image it & link it here. anyone got a copy?

I've looked everywhere and can't find an image of this disc. There's no way of getting it unless you bought a Psystar computer that shipped with the disc or if you have some buddies at Psystar
