I am using smcfancontrol to cool off my macbook pro, and I found myself running the fans on high rpm alot.
is it fine to run the fans around 6000 rpm for continuous periods of time?

The fans in your MBP will adjust themselves according to the temps, so you really don't have to worry about it. However, I use smcFanControl but keep it on 3000 RPMs. This is quiet enough to go unnoticed and keeps the temp down a little bit.
