Full Version: Are all Leopard Disks (Even brand new) compatible with PPC and Intel?

Hi there,

I just bought a brand new IMAC yesterday, I'm wondering if I can use my leopard disk on my friends old G4 IMAC.

They didn't strip the PPC support from new Leopard disks did they?

Thanks

I'm pretty sure they don't strip it.

While we're at it though, will OSx86 disks work on a PPC?

Original DVD release of Apple with Leopard 10.5 support PPC CPU.

but i don't think that the install disk that came with your imac will work. it's not a retail dvd. if i'm not mistaken you can only install on imac system. unless you edit the disk image and re burn it.

Let's do some clarifying here.

All Mac OS X 10.5 retail disks, including the ones that come with all new Macs, are compatible with both PowerPC and Intel; they're Universal. Now, the DVDs DO however have checks on them to make sure you're installing them on the hardware that they came with, but these can easily be bypassed with a few tweaks.

OSx86 disks will not work on a PPC, they're specially made for PCs and nothing else.

Any idea where I can find those Tweaks to get it to work?
