hello,

i'm planning to buy a mbp for the upcoming schoolyear. but i don't want to spend 2000+ for a laptop that is outdated in a month. are there updates coming for the macbook pro line?
Sevan
Not sure about MBP's, but there is a rumor going around that an update is coming in September.

Apple's definitely cooking up some new notebooks for their post-back to school sale. Rumors has it that they're going to be vastly different that the current models and should arrive mid to late September. If I were you, I'd tough it out with what I have now and held off until the new models are released. But again, that's just my opinion. smile.gif

News come out recently saying that Apple gonna relook and remake the hardware of the Mac Book in september (if the information is right for sure...)
SpeedfreaK
Well i hope they release the new mbp before 22 Septembre (start of the new schoolyear) because i don't have a laptop right now and i need one for school!

Spend a lot of money to test new hardware you need for study is not a good idea. But wait for new hard and buy the old (good one) for less money is cool.

Rumours say that the new MacBook line will arrive with a much better graphic hardware, maybe by nVidia, so, as I will do, it will be better wait a couple of months until the new MacBook line get released, imagine all the graphical power that a nVidia chip will provide for your video editing applications. Indeed, which is why I plan to wait for the refresh. I don't want to go out and buy one and it end up out-of-date.

You have proof to backup your claim there?

What, you want him to print a receipt of his intentions?

But seriously, I'd like to see this leak, too. Someone must have posted this on some apple blog.
SpeedfreaK
i definitely would like macbooks with good video hardware because that's the main reason i don't want to buy a macbook right now.

but if they release a new (superfast ofcourse tongue.gif) macbook pro for less money, i will buy that one tongue.gif

Calm down my friends tongue.gif

Well there are a bunch of mac and pc places, where you can find this "rumour" (just look for apple nvidia macbook), but honestly this is just a rumour, so, donīt trust 100% at all, but, as the way I see it, back in time, when rumours said that Apple will change those PPC processors for the dual core Intel line of processors it seems to be impossible, and there you go, it was true; so, this rumour seems to be a more flexible change, so, I suggest to wait a little bit, so you can find if this is just a rumour or that so awaited truth. Apple will almost certainly release a refresh of the Macbook Pro soon with Centrino 2 technology.

Im hoping for a MBP with 8800 or 9800 Nvidia graphics...

AFAIK, Centrino 2 (Penryn) are already availabe.
The big revolution should be next year, Nehalem Duo or Quad:

SpeedfreaK, why don't you buy a cheap, used notebook now and wait for the Nehalems?

Aren't i7 chips supposed to come out this year?

Afaik, Core i7 is another name for Nehalem. They are not available yet, especially the "Calpella" (mobile) ones.
SpeedfreaK
well i do want to wait for the nehalems mbp's but when will they come out? i have an old desktop i can use a bit for school stuff but i really need/want a laptop
Synaesthesia
Mobile Nehalem is only expected in Q3 2009

Bearing in mind Apple have never made a centrino based computer. Centrino is a combination of Chipset, wireless card and CPU all made by intel and ALL must be present for it to be centrino. IIRC Airport extreme is a Broadcom card not intel...

What you listed are the requirements for the laptop to have a sticker that says "Centrino." You can still mix/match Centrino parts, they just can't use the sticker.
