Full Version: Change CPU in PowerMac G5?

So I have a Dual 2.0 that doesn't work. Graphics card or Logicboard probably. I guess Logicboard.

Now I am able to buy a Dual 2.3 that has burned CPUs, but Apple centre assured the seller that the Logicboard is OK.
So do you think I could just drop in my 2.0 GHz CPUs and be done with it?

I know that the busspeed in the 2.3 is higher (1,15 GHz iso 1GHz), would that be a big problem for my CPUs?
Can I change that busspeed?
Is there perhaps a verification in the firmware on the CPU type/version?

Mine G5 was made from 2004 until april 2005, the 2.3 starting from april 2005.
Big changes done?

Thanks for the help!

Changing the FSB would result in changing the frequency of the cpu. If you dropped it down to 1 ghz, I don't know what the multiplier is in the G5(If any, I don't know the layout of the G5 cpus), but it would drop down to 2 ghz.

1.15/2.30=2
1.00/2.00=2
