I just bought a MBP and I'm already itching to mod it, I can't help it but I drool over the high resolution displays of other laptops. I've seen 1680x1050 and even 1900x1200 15.4" displays! It makes me sad that Apple is still stuck on 1440x900. So has anyone attempted this feat of swapping in a higher res lcd from Dell or any other manufacturers? I wanna know how it went because i'm really tempted right now...

I wouldn't want a 1900x1200 15.4" display...D: I can hardly see anything on 1440x900 on the mbp enough as it is.

There's a huge thread about this over at macrumors , and a wiki here. Currently this can't be done with the LED backlit displays though (looks like it's just a matter of finding a source for hi-res LED backlit panels though).
