Full Version: Kernel Panic -hardware/drivers listed

Here's my hardware:

Intel C2D 2.4Ghz
4GB Ram
3 sata hard drives
1 sata optical
1 IDE hard drive
nvidia 8600 GT
hd audio
Asus P5B
Realtek Ethernet
(2) firewire cards
Microsoft Mouse
Microsoft Keyboard (both w/MS drivers installed for OS X)

I installed Kalyway 10.5.2
Installed NVinject installer package for 10.5.2
Installed driver for my MOTU (external audio device)

I used the kalyway 10.5.3 combo update, got stuck at the screen, rebooted typed update -v, it rebooted by itself and it worked
Then I went to software update and updated to version 10.5.4
I had proper resolution but no CI/QE so I installed the NVInject installer package for 10.5.3-4
Then I had the CI/QE back

Now I have random kernel panics and don't know what is causing it, everything seems extremely fast, i can listen to audio through the external device (which has real MAC drivers), internet was fine, display is beautiful, i chat, firefox, vuze, etc, then BAM out of nowhere grey screen, You must restart your computer, etc.

any advice would be great... thanks for reading.

I have the same problem.

i too have installed Kalyway 10.5.2, Combo update etc...
The system runs perfectly fine, except those random kernel panics from time to time...
They happen very irregulary. Sometimes when i start a movie, sometimes if i start coying files, sometimes if i move a window...

It is no specific action that causes it.

My hardware:
MSI GA-P35-DS3
4 GB DDR2-800
3x SATA drives (ICH9)
1x SATA DVD (ICH9)
1x SATA drive (JMicron)
GF 7600GT (used EFI Patch)
The rest are onboard components.

I just wonder if the JMicron controller could cause the KP's.

I would be soooo glad if i could fix those issues....

Is there any hardware, that runs perfect tho, anyway?

Cheers,
Commander Waffles

Hi - did you resolve the kernel panic issue?
kenkenc
Same problems on My Asus P5N-D

I think its the Nvidia chipset.. can't even run Vanilla.

I think ill just scrap my board and get a new one that's more compatible

maxmem=3072 as a boot flag works for me. You'll only have 3GB memory available but the panics will stop. What firewire chip / card do you have?
kenkenc
thecodebowboy... dude

I just tried this... and so far not a single crash. I was really giving up and just wanted to try a new motherboard.

I was reading you're other posts. When using 4gb of ram did it clash with the hard drive controllers? Or just some motherboards don't like full slots?

In any regards thank you so much!

Computer was actually doing two types of crashes before I did the memory fix.

#1 random kernel panics and I get the gray screen

#2 random freezes, where the screen stays still and the mouse stops workings.. screen saver continues to work but cant even put the computer to sleep or have any input

memory fix solved problem #1... after that still having problem #2

so in my bios I disabled IDE drives.. so far so good.. will see if this works
