Hi there,

Ok i've been lurking for about 2 weeks now trying to do this install on my own and basically i'm so stuck i dont know what to do now.. Ok here it is.. I tried to install Kalyway 10.5.2 on a HP Pavilion m7470 and actually got it installed with the -v -x command. It took about 8 hours to install but it did install.. but then i could not boot into it. and the system kept on restarting.. so ok i figured that i would try to get into XP.. Unfortunately for me i could no longer access windows. I even tried to get into my recovery console and could nto get into that either. It keep telling me Disk read error.. So now im stuck.. No Kalyway and no Xp.. Less of reformatting the whole darn HD is there any other way i can get my XP remounted? Please any help will do.. Thanks

Hope you or someone can help.. its driving me nuts lol.. i have been lurking here for weeks and learning as much as I can but i guess maybe i missed a step or 2.. well i installed Ubuntu last night on a secondary hard disk to see if i could mount it that way.. But alas still get the dreaded "A disk read error occurred" So now i can boot into Ubuntu but can read my XP Partition on the other drive.. So once again any help is appreciated..

Thanks :-)

erm, have you tried using gparted to flag your xp drive as 'boot'?? when you do that, you can reboot into xp... (hopefully...)

I still can't understand your main problem is...please specific..
have u install Leopard?
If Yes..What is the problem?
If No..what is your question?
from what you wrote..I figure that you haven't done Leopard yet...and it might you done the wrong step...

OK Ill explain everything explcitly. I had Win XP installed on my PC.. I partitioned my 250Gb drive so that i had 50Gb for the Mac install using partition magic. I then Proceeded to install Kalyway 10.5.2. initially upon first install attempt I got the reboot error which the install kept rebooting the machine so i then proceeded to second attempted install via F8 -v In which i got the "Still waiting for root" error.. I then went on with the third install attempt using the F8 -v -x and and that worked. I then went into dish utilities and erased using journaled. I then went into the custom options and used the vanilla kernel and did all the other tweaks which i found in an install guide on this forum. I then waited in excess of over 8 hours for the install to complete. after which it rebooted. I then tried to get into Leo but the machine kept rebooting. I then tried to choose my XP from the darwin bootloader and it gave me this error "A disk read error occured" So now i could not get into any of the installs. I tried to boot up so many ways with no success in either leopard or XP.. I then used Gparted to try to flag and mount XP.. and that still didnt work. I then tried to fix via HP recovery console by pressing F10 and it gave me the same error "A disk read error occured" So what i did then was install a second hard drive, installed Ubuntu on it to try to see if i could see the actual drive or even access it. I was able to see the drive but was not able to access it. I tried mounting the drive in Ubuntu and that did not work either. SO now i am kind of stuck.. ergo looking for someone to help me out :-)

Ok so i've decided to risk it all and install it on my HP Pavilion Notebook because it doesnt seem like its going to work on my HP Pavilion Desktop.. Sooo.. here goes..

erm, dont you need to install pc efi for the vanilla kernel?? maybe thats the problem? try the sleep kernel maybe...

This is some method that i found..give a try:and remind me any progress.

if you are suffering from endless reboot after leopard hackintosh install, then follow these steps to solve it.

1. check your BIOS setup See This Post
2. try using some darwin bootloader switches (or combinations of them):
cpus=1
-f
-x
-v
-legacy
platform=X86PC
platform=86PC
rd=diskXsY (where X is the number of the leopard drive starting from 0 and Y is the number
of Leopard partition starting from 1 example: rd=disk0s1)
see "Darwin Command" for more details
3. make sure (from windows) you have at least SSE2 using the CPUz utility as stated in this post.. See This
4. try reinstalling with as minimum options you can (please see this POST "Install Leopard")
5. try to install the leopard without EFI support
6. goto the HCL and make sure that your hardware is supported.
7. try stripping hardware pardts you don't need for the install process (like PCI cards, 1.44, USB deices etc.)
8. i heard (i dont believe its true, but doesn't hurt to try) you need to change the name of the hard drive to something without spaces, special characters something like: "myhd"
9. if you are using kalyway 10.5.1 then try "TOHKERNEL" at the darwin boot prompt it will boot TOH kernel instead of the vanilla one (this solution is mostly for when the DVD reboots befor getting to the graphical install screen).
10. if you are using iAtkos r2 or later then make sure you choose "x86 Darwin Bootloader"
11. if you are using iAtkos r1 then make sure you done the Darwin boot loader step in the Install Leopard post (try with and without the EFI support)
12. a more complex way is to:

boot the Leopard install DVD
from the darwin boot prompt write -s and press enter
write: /sbin/mount -uw /
goto /usr/standalone/i386
write: ./startuptools -v /dev/rdiskXsY boot (where X stands for the number of Leopard installed hard disk starting from 0, and Y stands for Leopard installed partition starting from for example: rdisk02)
reboot
hope this helps,
Enjoy.

So..give a try..ok.

Ok so I've tried almost every distro of hackintosh and the only one that worked for me was Kalyway 10.5.2 which actually got me past the "waiting for root" error. I choose minmal options and i am using the nforce kernel (Hope that works). Its installing now as we speak.. I used an external USB Drive and it was able to see it in the install. I tried using LEO but it hung on "Waiting for root device" Kalyway went very smoothly no issues so far.. Its checking the install disk now.. So i guess when it installs i should be able to boot into mac for the first time. Keeping my fingers crossed. You guys have been great with helping me.. Will keep you informed. happymac.GIF

Ok succesful install using -v -x and using the nvidia kernel but now it endlessly reboots.. so from here i am stuck. i tried booting using -v -x -f -s as well as cpus=1 and rd=disk0s1 and nothing seems to work so now im stuck again lol going to try to boot from DVD again and change to vanilla kernel or sleep kernel.. hope this works
KiTzBiTz
try to use Leo4Allv3..this the most fine version for me..but if u want to give a shot with Kalway..then fine for me..well update me your progress here..or PM me..ok..I'll try to help you as well.
Rome0
Thanks so much.. Like i said in PM.. Installed Kalyway using -v -x and then went into installer no problem. Installed using nforce kernel. I think thats where iw ent wrong.. going to try to install it using vanilla and see if that works.. If not.. Its going to be a very long day.. im not going to choose any gfx yet.. I want minimal stuff i can always add the rest later.. lets hope it works this time.

Ok so finally got it up and working.. Used this method:

Added an external 250GB USB drive (Check my signature for model under HDD #2) Partitioned it in 3 parts and made all journaled since i have macdrive installed on Vista.. named 1 "leo" named the other "Storage" and named the third "Swap"..
I installed using F8 -s..
got to GUI screen and proceeded to disk utilities.
Chose leo erased using journaled
exited disk utilities.
agreed to TOS
clicked continue
choose the "leo" partition
click continue
at the bottom right choose Custom
uncheck languages
uncheck Fonts
use sleep kernel
choose top 3 audio
unchecked graphics
default for the next one
patches chose USBfix and amd patch 1

click done
continue to install

After install i booted right up into welcome and all was good... Only one problem.. No wifi .. no ethernet... got sound.. no usb.. so im stuck.. im now thinking could it be the usb drive? I also cant see my my ide drive as well .. but i know that there is a fix for that somewhere.I have not dual booted yet.. but i can get back into Vista by just removing usb drive.. So maybe its something with the usb.. any suggestions?
.. all hardware specs are in signature
kingsol
Romeo,

I have the same hardware (hp pavilion m7470n). Did you ever get sound/usb, etc to work? If so, do you mind sharing your final steps?

Thanks.
