Hi gang,

I've got an install of OSX on my PC (specs below) and it's working great. One snag: When I plug my iPhone in, nothing happens. The phone screen doesn't come on (as it does when I plug it in when I'm running windows), the OS doesn't respond as if a new device is visible, nothing. I've plugged it in to several usb ports including one that my printer is connect to, and it works, so I know the usb system is working ok. I've plugged the phone into another computer with the same chord so that's not it...

Any suggestions?

I'm running:
Asus P5B Deluxe (latest firmware)
2GB RAM
Intel Core 2 Duo

Thanks in advance.

Hmmm. I have this iPhone jailbroken with all my apps and settings and whatnot. I'd like to avoid resetting it if at all possible. Is that the only way? Why isn't the phone even drawing power to recharge?

If it isn't even drawing power, it's probably your USB. Are you sure OS X recognizes your USB at all?

I've got a printer (hp photojet) that works just fine. I've got a usb mouse, also working fine. I've tried plugging the iphone into those jacks and nothing happens...

Plug your usb devices in, reboot. All is well when you log in. Nothing else worked for me.

I assume the iphone charges with the stock USB mains charger and that it's not the iphone itself. You said the iphone works on a different computer so there must be something wrong with your USB, probably a USB power issue.

I used to have massive problems with external 2.5 SATA hard drives that are USB powered, until I found an enclosure with a separate power connection via USB. So only when the HD gets double USB power it works fine. It seems like the USB power on my mobo is too weak for certain devices. I never had a problem with the iphone though...

The iphone must be pulling quite some power to charge the battery. Printers have separate power anyway and mice, thumb drives etc don't pull much power. That's probably the reason why those devices work ok.

If you have access to it, you might want to try an external USB hard drive and see if it powers up and mounts properly using USB only. If it doesn't you'll have found the culprit but unfortunately I'm unable to tell you how to fix this.
