The annual World Wide Developer Conference starts tomorrow at 10:00AM(-8:00GMT) with a keynote from Steve Jobs. We don't know exactly what they are going to announce, but, as usual, there are a bunch of rumors to choose from.

iPhone/iPod touch/2.0
There have been rumors swirling around the 3G iPhone since December, and the general consensus is that it will, in fact, be released tomorrow. But wait, will it be thinner? Will it be thicker? Does it have GPS? Does it have a front-facing video camera? Does it ship with 2.0? Does it have a removable battery? Does it have a non-recessed headphone jack? Is it made of plastic? Does it have more than one color? Will it be cheaper? Who knows, but we'll find out on Monday.

Mac OS X 10.6
A few sources have pointed out that Apple is planning on shipping the next version of OS X, 10.6, in January of 2009. Sources also say that developers will be given a preliminary version on Monday to test. It is said that this version will not contain many new features, but will mostly be a release that fixes problems/makes the computer faster.

.Mac/MobileMe
It first started with rumors saying that Apple has purchased me.com for their use of the new .Mac service. TUAW said that .Mac would get a complete revamp, with over the air-syncing and many more enhancements. Strings that included "MobileMe" were found in the iPhone SDK, their website, and OS X 10.5.3.

Live Coverage
I would say that MacRumorsLive has the best live coverage, but that's just my opinion

So what do you think? Tell us in this thread!

I think they will be coming out with a second monitor-less desktop, between the mini and the Pro. They certainly need it. It will help bring over more windows users to the Mac. I think that's what the two bridges are all about wink.gif They will also be doing something with .mac. Either making it a lot cheaper and/or changing the name. I also think that GPS will DEFINITELY be added to the iPhone/Touch. If that's the case, then I will be buying a Touch as soon as they come out. Say goodbye to garmin biggrin.gif

Are there really that many problems with Leopard that they need a new version of the OS to fix them? I've been using it for months now and I've not noticed anything beyond Safari crashing quite a lot (I just use Camino).

I mean like general fixes, making it faster, and changing stuff up a bit; to make it more usable.

I don't think they are doing it to 'fix problems'. It is more of a 'all Intel' version release, as PPC will not be able to update.

Maybe the early release is so they have 2 extra years to work on 10.7

There are still some problems with leopard too. Two that come to mind are problems with the input menu and window views.
syrian_gamer
this is what makes me want to buy a mac. i mean cmon about a year after leo and they are coming out with a new os that will be more optimized??? so it will run faster i assume, while with windows laptops, or pc's in general. well how long was it since xp came out? more than 3 years, now that vista is out when is windows 7 coming out? and why are they just showing some cool touchscreen applications that will be included??? honestly i dont care. just make windows vista but much faster and less problems and i will upgrade to it. for now though, XP for games (do i realllly need DX10? DX9 looks good enough for me) plus i cant wait to buy a macbook since they are giving a free ipod touch WOOT WOOT! finaly i can get rid of my old 4G Ipod 40gb with a half working hard drive lol
fatshitcat
My bet:
iTunes 8 and maybe 10.5.4
Possibly new MacBook Pros?
MobileMe: a sure thing
Mac OS X iPhone 2.0

Yep, and Leopard mail still doesn't work for a lot of people (they can receive but not send). Still, I think it's way to early for 10.6, but maybe they are just going to show some ideas to get the rumor mill started. Those things help with sales biggrin.gif
Synaesthesia
Ah Apple! How do they do it? So secretive...so compelling...they've got me waiting with baited breath!

New Macbook Pros will have to wait for Intel's Montevina chipset, which has been delayed from June to July. However, with Apple's "special" relationship with Intel, one never knows. My money is on a new MBP in August or so.

iTunes 8 would be awesome, especially if the cover flow was done in Core Animation...

OS X has a faster release cycle than Windows. Tiger was an anomaly, sticking around for so long, an update in 2009 is highly likely. Windows 7 in 2009, on the other hand...Well I'll be really surprised!

XP came out in October 2001! Almost 7 years ago.

blink.gif Wow. Its funny how seven years later they havent gotten better at making an OS. I wasnt aware that Apple releases an update every year. Thats awsome. Makes me even more likely to purchase a macbook + ipod touch after wwdc. I really hope they update the macbook design to that of the air (ie backlit keyboard) that would absolutely rock my world biggrin.gif . I cant wait!!!

In fact many would say that they've gone backwards biggrin.gif
syrian_gamer
yeah i would agree. but i think the reason they did is becase they were trying to rival OS X with all its eye candy and features and "Simplicity" which they failed horribly. why do i have to press start>turn off>shut down> are you sure> just to shut down in vista, while in xp its just Start> Shut down> press enter and BOOM its off! oh wel just 1 of my nitpicks with vista.

Ok im going to try not to hijack this threat but I might buy a macbook for My last year of College since my laptop died on me biggrin.gif omg i cant wait. finaly a light laptop with a great battery, and of course free ipod touch!!!! god how can u not love apple? sure their stuff is very expensive, but back to school, ur giving me a free ipod touch??? that changes everything!

nice photo... 2centsfinal.gif

i read that snow leopard will be 29$ for Leopard users and 129$ as we know for older version of OS X Users.

anyway i think it's early to talk about a new OS for Mac but no problem with new OS for iPhone,we will see TODAY don't forget it!.

Thanks Numberzz smile.gif

I believe that this photo was taken from Angel Island facing east going to Oakland, though I am not sure which bridge is actually the one there, but I'm pretty sure that it is the one in the front.

Actually it's the same number of clicks in Vista as in XP, unless you've gone in to the power settings and changed the button so you only take two clicks.

And, only a few hours to WWDC, I'm thrilled biggrin.gif Hoping for decently-constructed MacBooks and a new Mini smile.gif
A Nonny Moose
I don't think PPC support will die with 10.6. Look at how long they supported the G3 (YEARS into OS X). This far into Intel (10.5), Apple finally killed off the G3's. I think we'll see G4/G5 support for a couple more years if we follow this pattern.

It's a dev convention, I doubt they'd introduce new products...

Bug fixes should be patched in for users that paid for the OS. They should'nt be included in a new OS you have to buy.

My prediction is that will be a lot of dissapointed users here as every Apple event.

Does anyone feel that 10.6 might mean the end of hackintosh community? I know it sounds stupid but never know I guess right?
Kiko
no, and no. Why would you say something like that?

Maybe, but in another way

Probably not as Apple is always stressing that only one company makes the software and hardware as the reason why macs work smoothly.

Im predicting an Atom based touch pad/tablet to compete with the bunch of cheap atom based mini notebooks. Imagine a 7 to 10 inch tablet, thinner than the macbook air! ( no harm in dreaming)

Gib rumored SteveJobs2.0 nao

God I love this topic. ;p
lord_muad_dib
osx 10.6 will support AMD CPUs..... tongue.gif

back in topic, i guess jobs will talk hours about the new iphone, it's too early for 10.6
leopard will last long imho

jobs will start always with 20 mins of his graphs about market,
no wonder will be several speeches from iphone app/videogames developers,
hours of bubbles about iphone app store, iphone new security crap and so on
.mac refresh
all available TODAY
oh... and there's one more thing...

Now... that... would be fun! A real hot torch under Redmond's behinds to do something proper.

Evolution through competition and legal freedom of choice for a user? It would be antibiotics for the pc and champagne for the users! tongue.gif

Let's all sing the Vista blues. biggrin.gif
codylcran
Opening Os X could bring a lot of consequences, not only for MS ,but Apple. A lot of drivers need to be written and so on ( amd support ) . Would be a hard work for everyone and mac won't be so optimized anymore. If these things are true , we would be very happy. ( and MS would have a competitor already ) . But it can't be, the world is not as easy like this.

By the way... How many hours left ?
theDeveloper
I am not setting my hopes too high about OSX coming to PC's, but it seems like the right moment to do so, if at all. Kick Vista while it's down wink.gif

They can always announce official support only for a subset of existing PC hardware, the most popular ones. I mean, OSX86 guys are pretty good at it, and these are full time dedicated developers at Apple we're talking here. So I think they can pull it off.
Mebster
Talking about 10.6 so early into 10.5 would be a really bad idea. It could persuade people from waiting. This is exactly what's happening with Windows 7 so apple should have learned from this.
mocap
Of course it can't be that OS X will accept all hardware all of sudden.

I think Apple will do a light start and only support few PC Hardware.
I'm sure they would not do AMD compatible, only-Intel would do the thing easier plus Apple would get trouble with Intel ( I think there are contracts) if they would release for AMD too. (Since Intel is Cooperating with Intel so flawlessly)

It really can't be made that they bring out every driver for each hardware at release.

PLUS! Apples concept was to make Hardware for software and not vice versa like in windows. Of course releasing OS X for PCs would confilct this enormously BUT Apple could select certain good Hardware among PC Hardware and make the OS only accept those Hardware.

thats what I think

EDIT: if people are surprised of me not handling OSX for PC as a rumor, but a possible move of Apple. Here is the reason and its quite simple: Announcing 10.6 so soon although 10.5 works like a charm IS VERY SUSPICIOUS (+ the fact for dropping PPC)
2nd is NOT CHANGING THE OS NAME COMPLETELY Leopard -> Snow Leopard acts like Apple wants to release same Leopard with only a decisive Addition. So this would be another version of Leopard not a whole new version of OS X

i think that apple may releases new computer with Intel Core 2 Quad it make it Faster

I think the only possibility for OS X in the PC is probably having a contract with Psystar, the only PC maker currently offering OS X.

If you read up on that company it is already a large rumour that Apple in fact owns that company. Just do a little digging and you'll see for yourself.

Is the free update for 10.5 users actually true or is it just a rumour or wish you had?

A wish. Seeing as it's mostly a bug fixing, performancing improving OS it should be provided as patches really. So if they are going to make an OS version with little in the way of new features it should be free. From what I understand OSX 10.1 was a free update for 10.0 owners.
