I have a Macbook Pro with 256MB Graphics Card. I am looking into buying a monitor/keyboard/mouse to connect to it for desktop use. I have a Dell 1905 19" LCD Monitor and connected it up and everything is real fuzzy. Could not get it to display sharper images. (This was leftover from my Dell Dimension desktop that stop working.) Looks like I have a good reason to by a wide screen LCD. Apple Cinema display cost too much for the response rate they have. Anyone have a good recommendation for displays that work great with the Mac? I am honing in on a Samsung or LG. Any limitations to how big or top end resolution that the Macbook Pro can drive through DVI to VGA converter?

Why do you want to use the VGA? Gets fuzzy w/ larger resolutions... (shouldn't of course happen w/ a 19"...)

I'm using a Samsung 19" as a second display on my iMac, works flawlessy. There shouldn't be any issues with any displays really, best guess is that your Dell display broke for some reason... I don't think you can blame it on your MBP...

I take that back. With wide-screen display I should be able to connect via DVI directly to the Mac my bad. Not blaming my MBP. Blaming my Dell Monitor.

Allrighty then, I can only say what I would do: Go get a nice Samsung. Their panels have built up some reputation and the prices aren't over the top either

Tried looking on the Apple web page to check tech specs. Could not tell if the MBP Video Card has a max resolution on an external monitor. Any idea?

Get a 30'' Cinema Apple display. HD

The Macbook Pro supports up to a 30" LCD at 2560x1600. So no worries

Why not get an older Apple "Studio" display. They look different from the current "Cinema" displays however they are much cheaper.
Search on eBay for bargains.

Not sure I want to spend any amount of money for 16 ms response time, when other displays have 2 to 5 ms response time.

vga should support high resolutions on a relatively large display as long as you use a good quality cable. dvi is, of course preferable however.
What will you be using the monitor for mainly? Gaming, multimedia, photo editing? 90% of the lcd monitors in stores are TN panels which have great response times but horrible viewing angles. As such they are not suitable for photo editing whatsoever.

Most of the larger apple displays are IPS which is the best for photo editing.

The dell 2408wfp is also a good (though not as good as the doublesight) pva panel. (pva panels are a good middleground between tn and ips)

I bought 24" widescreen TN panels and returned both of them. the dell 2408wfp is on its way.

I got a 2407FWP+HTPC earlier this year, and its a sweet, sweet monitor. Im getting a second Dell 2408FWP later this year. Dell make good monitors. Samsung are very good as well...but I need to keep my fung shui in tune

guys my imac g5 lcd broke and i need a new one. The model is lm201w01 (slA3) is a 20 inch screen. I cant find it any where and apple was charging me 700 dollars just for the screen. Any body knows where to get this type of screen. Is internal so i dont need a stand alone lcd but i dont mind taking it out of a case to put it on my imac.

mmm...sounds like a mission. Maybe you should just run external display.

I don't know if it will work, but it's a 20-in. Actually, that's just the bracket, but sometimes they have the LCD panel, too. However, the parts diagram labels it as parts 661-3622. I googled it and found some stores that seem to carry it. That should get you started.
