Tim Smart
Just out of interest, I was wondering what the broadband speeds of all the fellow InsanelyMac-ers are.

To get your results go to: http://www.speedtest.net/ , select a pyramid and when your test has finished, copy the forum code and paste into a post on this thread. The forum code to copy is shown below in the screenshot:

Heres mine... A average New Zealand connection:

Headrush69

The My Summary and Global Stats tabs on the results page is where the really interesting info is.
See how you compare to your ISP's average, the average in your state/province, the average for your country and several other things.

The link field's? Just take a screenshot and crop it if you have to, even though screenshotting and cropping I have to say are tedious and boring tasks...

It's supposed to be 6 megs down/384 kilos up... close enough I guess.

Time Warner really needs to increase the upload speed. It's been the same for 10 years!

Are these insanely high numbers from residential or commercial places? Because I find it really hard to believe that it is available for residential, even in San Francisco, CA...

I know there is Verizon FIOS, but relatively very few have it. And speed like that from Comcast would not be worth the cost in my opinion...

He's either INSIDE the Comcast building, or Photoshop is working overtime!? biggrin.gif

Let's put it to the vote, do you think Numberzz is of the type of character that would do something like that?!

SticMAN votes NO!

I usually get closer to 8000Kbps at night. Things seem to be a bit swamped right now.

This was tested with a wireless connection. A wired connection could produce different results...

.

..and what do ya' know, there is a substantial increase in download speed with a wired connection, but upload speed stayed pretty much the same, hmmm. Though I must admit, the wired connection was tested on a much less powerful system than the system with the wireless connection, so that could be a factor I suppose.

Probably getting interference on the channel your wifi is using. Channel 6 is so crowded in my neighborhood (because it's the default on most routers) that I get awful speed using that channel. I switched to channel 9 and everything is fine.

Our town is so small, We have 5 wireless routers in the whole town! I helped them all set them up! We do have a lot of normal fixed cable ADSL routers though!

Again, there is no way that is a residential connection.

And if it is not, it should not count. Last time I checked most work places will not let anyone take advantage of that kind of bandwidth (ie torrenting, downloading, streaming video)...

....broadband you say?

I'm still on dial up! My dad has been holding out for the longest time, we finally get broadband today (the line is activated and so on) and BT didn't deliver the router!!

We call them, and it turns out theres been a logistics error, we wont get one till Wednesday....

this is torturous....

As i'm not at home right now i'll post link to my speedtest from a few months back smile.gif

Numberzz
How many MBPS is that?
iSkylla
Numberzz, we have the same thing basically. I'm getting 20/20 Fios soon so this should go up. It's only 64 a month, too.

Right now I have just regular comcast, it's 45 a month IIRC.

20mbit both ways should be sweet when I get it.

On the west coast, what about SureWest, they offer 50mbit lines.

It's actually 25mbit both ways but they let you have any free bandwith as well...i often reach 100mbit both ways tongue.gif

25/25 but i often reach 100/100 because they give you any free bandwith on the network.

VM's 100Mbit trial stopped AGES ago as it was a huge failure.

The 50Mbit comes trial comes to an end soon and starts rolling out around december.

How can you be happy with all day STM though? (10am-3pm and 4pm-9pm)

50Mbit has STM as well
