Full Version: Fix QE after after 10.5.3 (or above) update
InsanelyMac Forum > OSx86 Project > Hardware and Drivers > Graphics Cards
Krazubu
Many people with nVidia lost QE/CI after the 10.5.3 update.
The way to bring it back is very simple :

- Open the info.plist of the injecter (/system/library/extensions/xxxx.kext/contents/info.plist)

- Find the line with :
QUOTE
<key>IOProbeScore</key>
<integer>XXXX</integer>

- Replace that number with 0

- Save to desktop, move the file back over the original one, overwrite (you'll need to authenticate)

- Launch the terminal and type those 3 lines to repair permissions :
QUOTE
sudo chown -R root:wheel /system/library/extensions
sudo chmod -R 755 /system/library/extensions
sudo rm /system/library/extensions.mkext

You can now exit and reboot, QE/CI will be back

PS : this guide assumes the "usual stuff" about GFX support is already OK (right kexts with right dev IDs, injecter correctly set...)

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

Working perfectly as on 10.5.2 with my Gigabyte 8800 GT!

Thanks a lot.

No success here sad.gif

My card is:
Chipset Model: GeForce 7600 GS
Type: Display

PCIe Lane Width: x16
VRAM (Total): 512 MB
Vendor: NVIDIA (0x10de)
Device ID: 0x0392
Revision ID: 0x00a1
ROM Revision: NVinjectGo 0.2.0
Resolution: 1680 x 1050 @ 60 Hz
Depth: 32-bit Color
Core Image: Software
Main Display: Yes
Mirror: Off

I've modified these files:
Natit.ktext
NVDANV10Hal.ktext
NVDANV20Hal.ktext
NVDANV30Hal.ktext
NVDANV40Hal.ktext
NVDANV50Hal.ktext
NVDAResman.ktext
NVinject.ktext
NVinjectGo.ktext (I guess - sorry I'm newbie - this is the one what really counts)

what else should I do yet?

Problem solved: I've installed NVInstallerV41, and luckily it works again smile.gif

Damn... It didn't work for me... still no QE/CI active with my 7300GT.

I've tried them all. Downloading NVInstaller choosing only nvinject 256 (No first driver package, the 90Mb one, Right?)

Then I've edited the .plist file as you describe, replacing the number with 0.

No luck...

Changing IOProbeScore didn't work for me either using a 8600 GT
vinlar
Doesn't work for my 8800 GTS 320MB either.

Works great for me on integrated GeForce Go 7400 . Thanks !

derailed_spark,

i also have an integrated GO7400. What drivers are you using?

I've tried nvinject and nvkush but i always get a blank screen after boot.

Thanks!

Just want to clarify: Does below only apply to NVinject.kext directory or all NV*.kext directories?

QUOTE(Krazubu @ May 31 2008, 12:12 PM) *
- Open the info.plist of the injecter (/system/library/extensions/xxxx.kext/contents/info.plist)

I got it too! Please tell us what drivers you have used!
I've tried NVinstaller_V.41 on my kalyway 10.5.1 updated with kalyway10.5.3_Combo and i got a blank screen. No internal LCD nor external VGA works. Thanks

Got my CI and QE back on my 7300GT (512 meg) by first dragging all drivers that start with GeForce from /system/library/extensions to the desktop and then installing the NVinstaller_V.41 package.

I did not check any extra options... just the injector and the driver for the first card (256 MB).

Rebooted, and all was good.

This also fixes the 70017 error in DVD Player.app

cheers

Thanks I am able to verify this technique works.

I: moved GeForce*.kext and NV*.kext from /system/library/extensions to a backup folder.
2. Deleted all the kext above (move to trash) required authentication. (at this point, I am basically trashing all the old kexts, so do not restart!!)
3. Run NVInstaller41.. I selected to install NVInject 128MB.
4. Restart.

Card is a NVS 285 dual head.

I am using the NVInjectGO 0.2.0 right now , but i tested most titan based injectors , all of them work for me. My notebook is ICH7 besed. I even use the internal display + an external one , clone and mirror working with-out problems. I tested so far Tiger 10.4.8, and Leo 10.5.2 and 10.5.3 , all with no issues.
The onboard card is a GeForce GO 7400 TurboCache card ( 128 dedicated ) and it should be 256 in total ( acording to specs ) , but System Profiler only shows 128 , no matter what kext I load.

Great Solution! Thanks a lot!

Thanks for the guide! Now my 7300gs works on 10.5.3:D biggrin.gif

Basically, I tried the way Iamalittlepepper post. I tried the V41 and V52. Both give me blank screen.
Then I booted into safe mode and everything works fine. I tried again and again and still no luck. Until recently, I can have everything booted into 1024x768 mode. However, it is so ugly on my Dell 2550FPW which can run 1680x1050.
Any help?
demolitionb
it works NOT with my foxconn 7900gs ....

that worked on my hackintosh':

hi all, who don't have working QE/CI on nvidia cards after 10.5.3 update. Here are the steps how to get it working back:
sudo -s
[type your password]
rm -fr /System/Library/Extensions/NV*
rm -fr /System/Library/Extensions/GeForce*
rm -f /System/Library/Extensions.mkext
reboot your PC and boot with flag -f
then install nvinject with kexts from nvinstaller 41 and do these steps again
sudo -s
[password]
rm -f /System/Library/Extensions.mkext
reboot your PC and boot with flag -f

In my case I have back working HW QE/CI

important is to choose n.41 not n.51 ^^

Didn't work on a 7900GS here.

wtf???

what happens?

do you realy take n.41 and not n.51 ... with n.51 it does not work, either with n.52...

For anyone still suffering from booting to a blue screen, this worked for me. Boot into single user mode (-s) and perform the following:-

/sbin/fsck -fy
/sbin/mount -uw /
rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/NV*
rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions.mkext
rm -rf /System/Library/SystemConfiguration/ApplicationEnhancer.bundle
reboot

I was able to get back to my desktop in a native 1024x768 mode and reload nvinstallerv41.
QE/CI Now working! smile.gif
dying4004
so many solutions..... but not a single works for me. sad.gif

i am using xfx 8400 gs 256 mb. tried

I have the same problem, blue scren, nvidia GO 7950, 512 RAM
How to instal NVInstallerV.41.pkg
Nicoleef
Blue Screen too, with the NVInstaller 4.1 method,
i do a check to see wich kext are the bad ones, Geforce.kext, NVDAResman.kext.
Krazubu
Please, stay on the topic, this is not a thread for support of XXX installer or something, ask about this in the relevant topics. If it doesn't work, it's most probably because your injecter/kexts were already not working before the update, because it's not set up properly.
Here is a thread about nVidia installation.

Krazubu instructions worked perfectly for my hack! I'm using Kalyway 10.5.3 with a 7300GT wink.gif Thanks!!!

Did not work for me, unfortunately.

Thanks for your efforts!

Kudos for Krazubu

His advice works perfectly. No need to install additional inject.kext.

CI: Hardware Accelerated
QE: Supported

Thank you very much.
Crash!
This technique did not work for my 8600GT 512MB Card after updating Kalyway 10.5.2 (vanilla) to 10.5.4. But I installed NVinstaller v.52 and that set everything straight.

Edit: NVinstaller .52 also works for 10.5.5.
Treats
That worked for my 8400GS as well. The first post in this topic did not.

Thanks!
