some device id like 0611 is absent from this release,
i wonder if you could add them back so that peopel who're using nforce don't need to add them back manually!

I got my 8800GT 512MB working with your
last version though it was only detected as 512MB, how would I go about removing that one safely so I can try this one? Also, would I choose just 9C20kexts + 512mb card?
Aside from the 256MB thing this install is perfect and I really don't want to ruin it. D:

doesn't work for me, the installer hangs when it gets to the "running installer script" point in the 9C20 install phase

hi Johniecarcinogen,

Thanks,

Gundumfx,
It does take awhile during the 9C20 phase (if you need permission repairs on your OS X volume) because I put a repairPermissions in it to fix a problem from my last one, give it time... it will install it just takes awhile if you have permission errors. Or you can repair permissions through the disk utility then use the installer and the 9C20 phase will go faster if there are no permission errors.
robotskip,
Yes just choose 9C20kexts and the 512 version, but if you still have the 256 checked the 512 will overwrite the 256 one. You just have to install this version but it will take awhile during the 9C20 (~2-5mins if you need repairs) because this will be fixing the permissions of the Frameworks folder I screwed up with the old one.
muitommy,
I noticed your other posts btw, I wasn't ignoring you. There seems to be confusion with the 8600 GT 512's. The 512 NVinject is the only one I didn't change the VRAM,totalvalue of because NVinject hads a specific 512mb version. I didn't know which to use... I used the NVinject512 and a NVinject I edited for 512 last time and got different results for different people. Does NVinject work in any instance with your card?

Ok, I updated it to take out the Permissions repair that made it seem to 'hang'. If you installed v.2 definitely repair your permissions on your mac volume in Disk Utility (a good idea every so often anyway), or in the terminal:
CODE
sudo diskutil repairPermissions /
But this version is fine regarding permissions.

@johnniecarcinoge
i can confirm this v.3 installer can install without hanging.
but it's weird, i can get it work even though i replace all the strings,
and also repalce the nvinject.kext
i need to replace all the kexts from the my first install (v.1) to get it work.
cus i downlaod that nvinject from someone else, i dunno which one was the original,
do you need me to post it up for you or just let it be

cus it's okay now.
p.s. just make some notes.

Just one question, i was looking the fan of my 8800 GT and it runs very slowy (of course is clean), is this normal?

Hello!
Currently I have a Radeon 3850, but tomorrow I going to replace it with a GeForce 8600 GTS because I need the computer to have a working standby (sleep) function.
So what do I have to do? Can I just relpace the 3850 with the 8600 and than install NVinject or should I first install NVinject and than swap cards?

JonnieC, nice work, not that i've tried your latest one, but your old thread's driver worked, just the problem is that No one has reported being able to use the second output. my first output is VGA and second is DVI, so you can see how thats a problem...

Thank you very much for this installer -- it works for my nVidia 8600m GT 256 Mb on my Vostro 1500.
I can use the hot corners to shut off the screen now!
However, I'd like to know if there is any way to make the restart/shutdown work again, without removing the NVinject kexts. Any word on the sleep feature?? These are the only features that don't work (except for the SD card reader of course)
Thanks again for your work!

gundamfx,
I honestly can't help you. I am still learning myself about OS X. These drivers are still beta drivers released from Apple and NVinject is a great project that I have nothing to do with that makes these work with no EFI. The first port being VGA may be a deal breaker for you since no intel mac has a VGA port and VGA isn't digital. To find answers you should ask here:
http://nvinject.free.fr/forums/EDIT: I just noticed in the old thread that someone
replied and had the same problem.
yan.kun,
I use a 8600GTS 256mb myself and this is the first time sleep works properly for me, I'm using the 10.5.1 vanailla kernal natkas 'EFI bootloader'. The 3850 is a better card preformance-wise but install the card then NVinstall.
uk_rules_ok and others with 'go drivers',
I can't tell you for sure, but I recall that macgirl of this forum uses a laptop with 8400m using NVinject so this should work.

Guys, I cannot stress enough... if you had the previous version to repair your permissions. Also there are sometimes random bugs, these are beta drivers. But then all you have to do is install this and it will update you, you don't have to uninstall anything.

Well, improvement upon existing scores, existing ones being your original 10.5.2/OpenGL/NVinject installer.
See attachments. Bench1 and XBench1 are original, Bench2 and XBench2 are your 9C23 ones.
Now to go and see if the PDF viewing bug has buggered off.
256Mb 8600GT, by the way.
*another edit*
Bench is the excellent OpenGL Extensions viewer from realtech-vr, BenchX is XBench, obviously. Ta!

*edit x3*
Next trick is to try and get things working without NVInject, by putting the device string into com.apple.Boot.plist, as outlined in Netkas forum. Wish me luck!

most likely your VRAM,totlasize setting is set as string mode instead of data mode in Info.plist... This was a bug in the initial release of NVinject for 512Mb cards but it has been fixed now...
Also this version is to be used with laptops with 512Mb nvidia cards (GeForce 7 mainly) which can't be flashed.
NVCAP setting is not good for desktop cards with 2 DVI outputs in this one...
you can read this section for further details :

I've just installed this on a clean 10.5.1 installation and everything is enabled, full 1920x1200 res and QE/CI but the screen continually flashes blue, making this post very difficult to write. Everything worked fine before installing this. I can get other NVInject installations working and stable, but not with QE/CI support so I'd like to try and get this working!
Anyway, I'm using a PCI-E 512MB 7600gs flashed for Darwin compatibility. Yes, I did customize the installation and choose the 512MB NVInject.

All right! Looks like the updated driver fixes the two issues I was having with my 8600GT 256MB:
(1) NV driver would crash when poking around System Preferences. Mouse cursor would beachball, but the system would stay up so I could still use an SSH session.
(2) System would hang when opening a PDF with Preview.
Both (1) and (2) are no longer issues on my system. It still won't wake from sleep properly, but I'm content. Thanks for this release!
