Mac OS X

What do u think?

I will have to say Vista even though I am more fond of OS X and unix like systems. smile.gif
Balto
Vista for me too!

Perhaps I'm too used to Windows but Vista has a more professionally done GUI. smile.gif

Though if you were to compare wallpapers from that two screenshots, I'll have to say the Aurora.
snakeeyes
Vista has a more futuristic look in my opinion, it looks cooler, mac os x looks a bit dull compared to vista, I mean I like aqua a lot but when u look at aero u want to use it. wink.gif

Choosing between OS X and Vista is like choosing between two girls.

They're both hot, but OS X has a better personality.

(I think OS X looks more polished than Vista, though. [example, Vista still has Windows 3.1 icons...])
snakeeyes
What!? blink.gif really, I never noticed, which icons r those?
CLiDE FTW!!1
^
There's a whole wack of them in System32

and I stumbled across this awhile ago, I remember seeing this in Vista RTM

Perfect analogy. Except in my opinion, I prefer OSX just because I've been on Apple OS since System 6.

In my opinion, Aqua looks much better than Aero, Aqua is much more subtle and to be frank beautiful, whereas Vista looks as thought it tries too hard
SDRacer48
I have to go Vista ( - the side bar, that thing is a piece of crap, plus who needs 2 fluffing clocks!)

Actually the Vista UI is the only reason I upgraded from XP MCE 2005...
 Levkovski - Think Unique
Tbh Aero is the only reason I switched from XP to Vista... but after about three months I really couldn't stick Vista anymore so I switched back. I still have it available to boot though
snakeeyes
Vista's interface is something I always found cool even though I love aqua as well. yeah u r right that Vista does try a bit hard, its tooooo bright compared to aqua.
 Levkovski - Think Unique
In my opinion the Progress Bars on Vista are just absolutely atrocious, the glimmer goes the wrong way and looks like the progress bar's advancing when it's not...
The progress bar in Aqua tbh is a thing of beauty (y)
snakeeyes
I agree levkovski, but don't u think tiger's aqua interface was better than leopard's?
 Levkovski - Think Unique
Tbh yes I do, which is partially why I haven't upgraded yet. I quite like the brushed metal and pinstripes....
CLiDE FTW!!1
I used to think Tiger looked nicer, but the uniform look makes Leopard look much, much more professional. Pinstripes and brushed metal is sooo early 2000's.
 Levkovski - Think Unique
Windows doesn't really fit in with any generation tbh...
(MoC)
They both look great IMO so I couldn't vote for either. Hats off to both sides smile.gif
snakeeyes
Yeah both sides have done a great job, vista's theme is a huge improvement to xp.
 Levkovski - Think Unique
I don't know... after Aero for 9 months I started to miss Luna...
snakeeyes
I added a poll now, its a bit funny though. Really, why do u like luna more than aero?
 Levkovski - Think Unique
I never said I liked it more, but I think it just looks cleaner
and I detest the aero soundscheme

I don't miss the original Luna, but I do miss the MCE Luna. It looked nice.

Everytime, I see a computer running Xp, I can't help but to think about the good ole days...
snakeeyes
Yeah media center's theme was cool, I have also noticed that even if I turn off aero, ram usage remains high for me, is it because of drm stuff?
MadDoggyca
how cares what it looks like as long as it runs right...

vista has the built in previw window in explore.exe to the right side plus the bult in search is sexy enough for me and its is usefull..

the most sexest thing in Vista over xp is DX 10.1 (sp1) and the 9800 GX2 video cards

far as I consider windows Classic is the most sexest GUI to date.. (speed is bueaty)
snakeeyes
I can't believe u like windows classic. blink.gif

At least windows classic was better than Mac OS 9, that was horrible, its a good thing I used Mac OS X first time with 10.1 after their unix transition.

358 views and 14 poll answers, people here can't answer a simple poll? blink.gif

lol...who thought they were prettier than aqua and aero? laugh.gif

The vast majority of people who read this topic understand that each OS has it's finer and less-fine points, and to collectively make ONE of the OS's "prettier" than the other is not realistic. There are things we like about one and things we like about the other.
 Levkovski - Think Unique
But to be honest, the 'prettiness' is one of the things I love about OS X

I am not talking about finer and lesser points, all I am asking is which GUI looks better, not what OS has an advantage over another with different features.

You can't find aqua and aero to look equally good can u? You must like one over the other and people can't even decide that?

Even though I rarely use it (only on my server), the windows classic gui is a great. It is clean, simple, and gets the job done while consuming less resouces.

It is not the sexiest in terms of transparency, bubbliness, or special effects, but it is quite satisfying when you desire the basics...

If you just look at a frozen still picture they are mostly even, depends on what part you look at. Both have residues of old apis which both companies tries to kill, but the old looks from old windows apis are mismatching more than OS X'. What makes differences are the execution of the looks, on vista there are often abrupt changes when you switch states, but on Leopard they are smooth. When there is heavy load you are able to see the redrawing of the windows in Vista, but seldom in Leopard.
 Levkovski - Think Unique
Aqua was revolutionary anyway, until OS X was released there were barely any animations and Alpha Channel effects in GUIs, Aqua popularized the beauty of an OS
snakeeyes
thats true, aqua is the first gui to introduce good looks and compositing as well, am I right?

mac os x was actually a huge change for apple in terms of gui and of course unix cause I remember looking at a screenshot of mac os 9 and I could have puked, it was worse than win 95.

the first mac I got was when tiger was new so obviously at the time aqua looked cool.

Yeah, indeed. But I don't really miss any Luna. I'm used to Vista now. I miss the custom themes that I've made for XP... editing the real XP kernel to change the boot screen, changing the login and logout interface, making a custom taskbar...

That analogy is brilliant.

This isn't a question of the speed of the OS. This is just a simple discussion of which OS GUI you prefer. That being said i find each one to be pretty nimble on my machine.

I see OSX as a natural beauty that looks just as good when you wake up to her in the morning as she does dressed up for a night on the town. Vista looks more superficial and if you see her without all that makeup you'll be chewing you arm off to escape. Underneath all that glam it's still windows.

If that's the case then I'll go for MS-DOS or BASH on top of Linux.

Otherwise it is Aqua and OS X no question. The interface is just timeless.

I prefer Windows Aero just because it looks far better than windows 98 OSX style.

Windows 98 OS X style?
That's somewhat of an oxymoron...

Why do u think OS X looks like windows 98, is it because of the color scheme?

To be honest so did I, but Still prefer this to any GUI Microsoft have released, and hopefully this version of aqua will grow on me the same way Tiger's did.

After having used vista myself on multiple setups you soon get very bored with "aero" so much so it becomes an annoyance in the end.

The effects slow your work down, it is not functional at all, just something nice to look at.

Aero is sluggish as hell if your multitasking (for instance site design while browsing etc, the animations lag and it feels like ur having to wait for a window to draw)

I find leopard/aqua very pretty, elegant and simple, aero just feels like its trying way too hard to look nice while forgetting about speed and tidyness.
snakeeyes
I think its Vista's fault that aero slows down since Vista it self is a resource hog, I think in windows 7 aero should be faster.
