Ok I am really annoyed constantly seeing people who don't know how to search and start new topics when old ones already cover the same subject & answers.

So I am going to teach people here how to search this forum and for OSX info the way I do. That is pretty damn successful.

Ok first start with google.

Now I know you can search within insanelymac only by limiting to this site only (site:insanelymac.com) but I don't like to do it that. I find you get the same results by just typing insanelymac and whatever you looking for.

For an example If I was looking for Extensions-Repair.app. I would search first: Insanelymac Extensions-Repair.app

Now youl notice that the results are almost nothing because insanelymac and Extensions-Repair.app is to specific. Now what to do. Drop the .app from it & insanelymac in this case. Throw a -windows in there to get rid of the windows results. Now youl end up with a good search with a good number of results. Now if you look at the cached results youl find one that leads to mega upload and you can download that app. Its a useful one to.

Now using additional words does help but you need to first start simple with one word descriptor. Take whatever you looking for and get it down to one word that describes it best. So whatever your looking for get it down to that one word. First run that search and see what you get. That second word should be the next most descriptive word used to describe your topic. Add to the search one word at a time until you find the correct words to limit your search enough to get exactly what your looking for.

Picking the right words is the key to a good search. So lets saying your looking for SMBIOS and Front side bus.

I would search: insanelymac SMBIOS FSB.

Other key words & things you can try to search with besides just insanelymac are: MAC, OSX, OSX86, hackintosh OSX PC, -windows, -PPC and throwing quotes around things can help also.

I use cached results on google as they point out exactly what I searched for on the page I found with google. I would recommend using cached results.

Once you get the hang of it youl start to just know what words to use to best describe something. Google is a great tool and rarely does it let me down. There are times though that I still cant find things and that is when I know I'm being to specific. When you cant find it broaden your search and if you still cant find it then post a new topic and ask someone else.

Hope that helps people.

Glad it helped. I have never had issues finding anything using these techniques. Hope others find it valuable.
