Forget it, this fix only worked with 10.4.1 There is no solution for accelerated graphics on that chip.

so theres no hope at getting anything better than the vga default of 1024x768 what so ever

you gan set your graphics mode at the boot prompt, and when you've found a good value, enter it in com.Apple.boot.plist you'll still be using the vesa driver though, so it won't do anything fancy...
