Guy was selling off all kinds of old out of date stuff.

-Asus P4V8X-MX w/ a Prescott 3.0GHz - $15 (marshmallows and hot dogs to roast on it not included)
-Unknown Geforce FX5600 128 meg - $7
-Unknown mATX case - $5
-Bunch of fans and misc junk - $5
-Unknown 400 Watt PS - $5

Total - $37

I added from my own junk:

250 GB Seagate sata HD
Sony DRU-810a IDE burner
2 GB G.Skill DDR 400
Logitech PS2 keyboard
Logitech wireless laptop mouse
Masscool socket 478 all copper cooler (sucker still idles at like 55c)
SB Live 24 external usb sound
17" LG LCD

I usually do retail installs these days, but I didn't want to bother too much with this thing. I had downloaded Leo4allv3 a few days ago to play around with, so I used that. Basically a flawless install (props to eddie11c). The CMI9761A sound doesn't work and probably never will, but everything else works fine. Plugging in the Live24 cured the sound problems. Luckily I hadn't sold it yet after getting my M-Audio 410. Installed Nvinject .41. Replaced the newer netkas AppleSMBios with an older one to fix About this Mac. That's it. Works a treat. Plan on giving the system to some financially strapped friends for their kid. angel.png

I go to garage sells all the time (about to leave to go right now actually!). That's a killer deal. I once got a pretty good mobo brand new for 10 bucks. I never considered though hunting for hardware that would make a good hackintosh...

I wasn't hunting for specifically for hackie stuff. Didn't even think about until I got it home and decided to try it. Austin is the freakin' mecca of used computer stuff. Within ten minutes of my house there are seven stores that sell used and discount computer stuff, plus a Frys. We have more geeks per square foot here than any place I've ever lived. biggrin.gif

Amazing. i just sold a old computer with a custom XP install for 90.00 and the specs were 1 100th what that system has but it was all configured ready to use. Not many geeks where I'm at and I'm glad for it. Otherwise i'd never sell a computer for under 100.00

They only computer stuff that holds its value here is Apple stuff. Their is such a huge community of relatively rich geeks here that the used market is just flooded with stuff. My last really good deal was a whole Althlon 64 Shuttle system I bought to use as a HTPC. Has a gig of ram, 200 gig hd, ATi All In Wonder X1300 256 meg, and a bad power supply. Got it for $120. Was able to find a used PS for it for $35 (they are expensive new). Now it's my Linux media server. wink.gif

You brought me good luck today man! I scored a compaq with 2.8 prescott sse3 80gb hd and 256mb ram for 5 dollars! I'm going to take out a gig of ram from my current comp and put it in and sell my old comp probably for about 200-300. Leopard installed on it super easy, but I think I'm going to try Kalyway 10.5.2 (10.5.1 on there now). Everything was fine, but just a little slow because of the low memory.
