Full Version: Best Graphic card between $100-$150 that works out of the box?

I currently have a ATI radeon 256meg X1600 PCIe graphics card that I've got it working with Leopard 10.5.2. Only draw back with this card is that it can't output via DVI. I'd like to purchase/upgrade to either an ATI or Nvidia card which will just work without too much configuration hassles, DVI out, and within $100-$150. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

regards,

Sean.

You probably want an Nvidia card, anything before the 8 series.

There aren't that many Geforce 7XXX series to choose from. 8XXX series takes work to get it going?Sean.thanks for the link starfox but that link is for an agp card. Will this work out of the box?http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...82E16814122010RIts a Leadtek 7900GS Card.

Hi,

really easy. Maybe it is important, that you do not have any other driver installed (my opinion).

If you only have the Vesa 1024x768 with no hardware acceleration, go to the following page and grab the file:

Page: http://scottdangel.com/blog/?page_id=20
or Link to file: http://rapidshare.com/files/100669894/NVInstallerV.41.pkg

Just install it (i've not choosen the included kernel, just installed the driver for graphic) and after the first reboot I got the full resolution.

The system was a little bit slow (moving windows around was ugly *g*), so I started Xbench20 and after it was ready with its tests, my system works fast and awesome. Dunno if the slowdown after first reboot was really a problem, maybe Spotlight scanned for some files or so ...

Fact ist: Install NVInstaller V.41 and you should have a working system.

Maybe important ... i've got a PCIExpress 7600GT, no AGP.

I did the same (installing .41 installer) and after reboot all I got is kernel panics, and I had to remove it... I have a 7600GT also (from Asus). Any help??
