Whew, I finally found the sound card in my Gateway 503GR (running Leopard 10.5.2, a Kalyway install). Everything works great except sound and video (but it's GMA900 so I'm not expecting that to work for awhile). The Gateway specs are listed as "Intel® High Definition Audio subsystem using the Realtek ALC860 audio codec" for the sound card. What should I download to get sound working on my computer? Thanks alot,
Peace

Would ALC888 that I see here work. There are threads saying it's working, but I haven't heard anything about ALC860...

I'm not 100% sure what I did but I'm getting audio out now. I had this problem in 10.4 also, where I had to boot into windows and then reboot into OS X. I think it may have something to do with turning the power to the device on. I am no longer dual booting, but I am getting spotty audio support using the Azalia method (I think). After enough reboots, it seems to work. Here's some pics of my kextstat if that helps

I have an HP 9750 with ALC861-VD sound that I have been trying for weeks to make work. I finally gave up and found somewhere on here the usb drivers for the creative external (USB) soundcards. I am happy to say that I now have sound! Granted, I would rather have been able to utilize the onboard sound of my laptop but I will be more than happy to get sound anyway I can! I'm using the Creative USB model# SB0490. I just wanted to let others know that if push comes to shove you can use the usb sound devices.
