Folks have 9800GTX working, shouldn't GX2 be fairly similar?

No, 9800GTX is based on the G92 (from the 8800 cards). [incorrect statement removed]

actually a 9800gx2 has 2xg92 GPU's so probably your 9800gtx driver should work on them also.

but no SLI offcourse.

Sorry redcell. I was thinking about the 9600GT, the 9600GT doesn't work because it has a G94. You are right, the 9800GX2 is 2xG92, but I haven't heard of any success with the 9800GTX driver because OS X doesn't like SLi and 2xGPU chips.

there is a driver for the ATI 3870x2 but only one core works, so shouldnt that be the same case with the 9800gx2?

So, did we decide weather or not there was support for the gx2?

Not that NVIDIA has supported it well yet, but is there a way to get it working half decently?

Yes there is some support for GX2's, I got 2 of them working as you can see here:

However, it is fairly tricky. You will need an X48 motherboard it seems and on most boards you have to put the card in the second slot.

Have a read through this thread 9800 GX2 Thread

does it still work in 10.5.5? I haven't upgrade yet lol...
aqua-mac
Yes it does. In fact it now uses a G92-450 pre-release open GL engine. I was hoping this may cure the past problems with this card, but it seems there is no change. However, performance has taken a big step forward.
