We all love to talk in this community, sometimes more than we should. I was thinking if we should put shoutbox for some easy random conversation. As it is some people are having issues with the IRC client and this software is pretty simple to set up. What do you all think?

I would definitely have to disagree with this, mainly because it discourages people to post in the forum and people will end up using it for asking Hackintosh Questions all the time. So sorry but a BIG no no from me.

I agree with suhail. Also because it clutters up the site.

@Suhail,Superhai
I agree with both of you.There is no need (my opinion) to create a shoutbox...

I have to agree also. Besides, you end up getting a lot of spam in those, too.

It really wasn't a bad idea, just not a good idea for this particular forum.

I give a thumbs down. Although it truly does have its benefits, with over 160,000 members the shoutbox would be flying with posts.

What are you guys talking about.
We need a shout box more than anything else. Forget the system stability issues, even forget the unusable search but say hell yes to boxshout!
So I'm a big thumbs

I agree with just about everyone here. MoC its a nice idea, and its good for a small forum with say only a few hundred members but we have close to 200,000 members here and it would cause a complete mess.

Yeah, that's a big point I forgot about. It would be a damn flood!!

Well like before I'll take the opposite side. With a shoutbox for each forum (just maybe put it at the bottom so it doesn't hinder people using the forum) so that it won't get overly clogged and then make it so that there is a good flood control. The Hack questions would probably flood it so you could simply have it so that the rule is that the Shoutbox would be for only short questions, not "Can you tell me how to install Leopard on my dell?" Others just got back into the forums.
Shoutboxes are very nice because they enable you to have a public chat room where people can look back into the conversation instead of having to ask "What are you talking about?"
Still, I think it would be hard to implement, and the forums seem to function well w/o it. We could also consider offsite shoutboxes.... like on another page.

We have IRC for that

Correct. Also having a shoutbox which loads every second would cause the Load to spiking high. Therefore resulting in more issues with server.

Or you could just get a real IRC client and not waste your time?
