Full Version: 2-Chan Sound-Fix for P5K-E Wifi/AP on Kalyway 10.5.2 (AD1988b)
InsanelyMac Forum > OSx86 Project > Hardware and Drivers > Sound
yougene
hi everyone,

i had some sound problems (AD1988b) with my ASUS P5K-E WiFi/AP on Kalyways 10.5.2 at first.
I followed a TON of guides, edited .kext Files, plist stuff and so on and on....nothing really worked for me...
Friend of mine (Cheers H2!) claims to have "out-of-the-box" 2-chan. audio suppport with the exact same install AND hardware than i have...
if you dont, just like me, this might help you out.

Today, i finally found one guide for "Kalyway 10.5.1", where someone said "just add the AD1988b" driver option for install.... my "Kalyway 10.5.2" did not have this option while customizing the install, so i just extracted the driver from this 10.5.1 disk... wink.gif

Now:
#1: delete your "AppleAzaliaAudio.kext" from /Systems/Library/Extentions/ (you might also want to delete the AppleHDA.kext, i did that before.. not sure if its necessary.)
#2: download and extract the attached ZIP "Azalia_ADI1988b.zip" Folder.
#3: copy the "AppleAzaliaAudio.kext" from this Archive to "Systems/Library/Extentions"
#4: open an terminal as root (sudo -s), enter your password, then enter:
"diskutil repairPermissions /Systems/Extentions/AppleAzaliaAudio.kext"
#5: just reboot and see the magic happen!

yes, still just 2 channel support (backpanel), but its still better than nothing smile.gif
& no, i did not try the mic, sry.

GO KALYWAY!

it works for me! thx!

Thanks for posting this article as I have the same setup and the same problem. But when I restart my computer all i get is this error message:

System extension cannot be used

The system extension "/System/Library/Extensions/AppleAzaliaAudio.kext/Contents/Plugins/AppleAzaliaController.kext" was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product's vendor for an update.
yougene
hi again,

Zero? Did you rebuild Permissions?

Sorry, i am no pro in this, but to me your message sounds like a problem with .kext permissions.
When you rebuild permissions via terminal it might take some time...
You see some kind of % indicator like 10%...20%...30%... and so on.

Again, you gotta be root (sudo -s) & must then use:

"diskutil rebuildPermissions /Systems/Library/Extentions/AppleAzaliaAudio.kext"

i tried this solution with two kernels, speedstep & vanilla on my ASUS P5K-E Wifi/AP (onboard sound via AD1988b)

another thing: when you first delete the old .kext, do NOT reboot! os x will rebuild it if you don't clear caches first! so delete the old .kext, copy the "new" one from the archive in your .../Extentions/ Folder, the do the terminal-voodoo.

hope that helps - good luck!

ahhhh....finally sound....sounds good tongue.gif

cheers,

It did not work for me. I deleted the AppleAzaliaAudio.kext and even AppleHDA.kext.

In the terminal I got the following,
bash-3.2# diskutil repairPermissions /Systems/Extentions/AppleAzaliaAudio.kext
Disk Utility Tool
Usage: diskutil verifyPermissions [-plist] MountPoint|DiskIdentifier|DeviceNode
diskutil repairPermissions [-plist] MountPoint|DiskIdentifier|DeviceNode
Verify or repair the permissions of a Mac OS X boot volume.
Ownership of the affected disk is required.
Example: diskutil verifyPermissions /

Still no sound. Looking everywhere for an answer.

cheers,

yougene
hey khadley,

sorry to ask, did you try "repairPermissions" as root?

fist thing you'll have to do after opening your terminal is:

"sudo -s"
then
"diskutil repairPermissions /System/Library/Extentions/AppleAzaliaAudio.kext"

AND, my guess is, if you shut down your machine in the meanwhile, the whole, delete-old-kext-copy-newone-over part should be done before again.

good luck!

Hello,

I did finally get it to work messing with the Bios and working with the tool you provided.

Thanks smile.gifsmile.gif

mic,inputs,spdif are not working
yougene
@spanakorizo:
yes, you are right, as i said in my original post, the Azalia driver just gives us simple 2 channel output... nothing more but also: nothing less.

@Gimmy2000:
Did you already try the steps I described in my first post?
I think the important part is to do the terminal stuff as root, otherwise the permissions won't get repaired.

good luck!

A lot of thanks! You just made my day:)

I was exactly in your situation -- just reinstalled system on another HD from 10.5.2 Kalyway and sound didn't work (and it did with 10.5.1). Did like you wrote and bingo! Thanks!

So, P5K-Premium (AD1988B) here, stereo out working! (well, nothing more ever worked here, everyone hopes on Taruga:)

By the way, if you won't play around with terminal just start DiskUtility.app and Repair Permissions on your Leo partition -- it helps as well (to avoid flood -- I did like this and it works).

And, I didn't even touch AppleHDA.kext

can u help me yougene? im using realtek high definition audio( hp dv6000) and it shows as intel high definition audio in mac's system profiler. thanks in advance.

i got 5.1 digital audio s/pdif working:

what you need:

kalyway 10.5.2 install disk

asus p5k-e wifi (obviously as the guide is for this mobo) don't know if this works for the premium edition

intel ss3 processor ie core 2 duo dual or quad

my rig

mobo: asus p5k-e wifi

video: galaxy 8800gt

cpu: intel e8800 45nm 3ghz

ram: adata 2×2gb

hdd: sata only

case: sonata III

step 1 - bios settings (press del (forward delete on apple keyboard) at asus splash screen)

under 'main' set sata config to AHCI

under 'advanced' set jmicron controller mode to AHCI

under 'pci pnp' set plug and play to yes

under 'power' set 'suspend mode' to s3 only

step 2 - reformat hdd

boot the kalyway 10.5.2 disk (external dvd drive works fine)

choose your language

accept read me

under utilities run disk utility

under partitions choose 1 partition (this activates options button)

under options choose guid

reformat using mac os extended (journaled)

quit disk utilities

step 3 - customize install

choose hdd to install to

hit customize (here's what i did)

under kernel choose vanilla (no other)

under graphics choose one driver that matches your card (i chose nv-inject-512)

under audio deselect all

under network/wifi i deselect all (i don't need wifi but the realtec driver/app (16mb) installs fine)

under thirds deselect all (most i didn't want or were out of date)

under patches i selected time machine fix and deselected french keyboard

under languages i deselected other languages

install kalyway

step 4- patch audio

boot hdd

get Taruga_AD1988b_Installer.zip here:

http://wiki.taruga.net/tiki-index.php

link is AD1988B Installer next to p5ke (NOT p5k-e wifi premium)

install patch

repair permissions

restart and pray

step 5 - enjoy sweet sweet HD audio

system profiler shows: intel high definition audio headphone/mic/line out/spdif/optical

Yes with the drivers form this site:
http://wiki.taruga.net/tiki-index.php

you can add full funcionality(mic, digital output, etc) for the sound card of the Asus p5k-e mobo, even if you have originally installed with the 2 channel audio.
You will just install the above package and reboot and it would work. It will not screw up your system .
krathkor
you may have to remove the kexts installed by the other installer

Hi All,

Ive been trying yougene's method of getting the sound to work on my p5k-e wifi and im running into several issues. I'll detail them as best i can -

#3: copy the "AppleAzaliaAudio.kext" from this Archive to "Systems/Library/Extentions"
At this point, im asked to authenticate, and as i do, i get a message saying that the system extension cannot be used. It says that the AppleAzailaCotroller.kext was installed improperly.

#4: open an terminal as root (sudo -s), enter your password, then enter:
"diskutil repairPermissions /Systems/Extentions/AppleAzaliaAudio.kext"
On sunning this from the terminal with "sudo -s", i get the following error -

bash-3.2# diskutil repairPermissions /Systems/Extentions/AppleAzaliaAudio.kext
2008-10-11 12:25:05.425 diskutil[1253:10b] _CFGetHostUUIDString: unable to determine UUID for host. Error: 35

What am i doing wrong?

Any help would be appreciated.

I have no idea what all that stuff is you are doing, i run the install from the link above and reboot and have no issue. If you still have problems maybe you should remove all sound kexts and then run the above installer from the link

Yes, I tried it after you mentioned it, and it didnt seem to work.

Then i followed your other suggestion, and deleted all the audio kexts. I then ran it again and again, no luck.

Do i have to rebuild the permissions after i use the Taruga installer ? And if so, what do i have to do.

Thanks.

Not to P on anybody's Parade.....

This Azalia kext is exactly the same as the original post's BUT it contains ALL the Device ID's for all the ASUS Mainboards(and some other)!

Mine is a P5B Deluxe with Did:0x284b so this might help others!!?

Well, I picked up a miglia USB Sound Card because from a friend, cause i said i'd try that. It also says that its Mac compatible.

It doesnt seem to work, though for other it has. In case of the USB soundcard, would i require to modify any kextx ? , like maybe uninstall the kexts installed by Taruga ?
