DiaboliK, a developer here at InsanelyMac has discovered signs that Apple may be pushing out Mac Mini's and iMac's based on NVIDIA's nForce MCP79 chipset. The following contents were found in IOPlatformPluginFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin.kext/Contents/Info.plist from the MacBook5,1/MacBookPro5,1.
<dict> <key>Desc-Key</key> <string>CFG_MCP79</string> <key>Description</key> <string>Mini-FL-2008</string> <key>model</key> <string>Macmini3,1</string> </dict>
<dict> <key>Desc-Key</key> <string>CFG_MCP79</string> <key>Description</key> <string>iMac-FL-2008</string> <key>NoSLFM</key> <true/> <key>model</key> <string>iMac9,1</string> </dict>
As you can see from the "<string>CFG_MCP79</string>" line, this may be a solid indication of Apple's plans for future Macs. nForce users have had a long and hard history of running Mac OSx86 (compared to users of more supported chipsets e.g. Intel) but with this, nForce may just become one of the best platforms for running Mac OSx86. With the introduction of nForce chipsets in macs, will we see improvements in NVIDIA graphics technology on the Mac? Only time will tell.
