MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo Released

suleiman

Apple announced today the release of the all new MacBook Pro Core 2 Duos. The machines are the second in Apple's lineup to receive the Core 2 Duo upgrade, after the iMacs received the upgrade some months ago.

While speculation had existed for sometime as to when Apple might upgrade its Pro series of laptops, an October release date by the company comes as quite a surprise.

In addition to the upgpraded processors, the new machines boast processor speeds up to 2.33ghz, 200 gigabyte hard drives, 6x double-layer DVD drive burning, two firewire ports (one 400 and one 800), and a price tag starting at $1,999 for the low end model, and $2,799 for the 17-inch high end model.

With all the sweet new upgrades on this baby one thing is for sure, I'll be making a purchase sometime before December.

I think it's definitely a sweet upgrade, but I'm a little mift the graphics chip didn't get an upgrade, a 512 option would have been nice, especially with Apple underclocking its chips so much.

Was wondering when this topic would come and the front page change. The upgrade is nice, but prices are really high. I think the Core 2 Duos of the Macbooks won't go down either, which is sad. To high priced to me.

And now I'm thinking about another swap for that new MBP - the FW800 port was a big surprise and would come in handy for video work since I have a 300GB external drive with FW800 on it not being used. Dammit... 120GB drive too... and a single 1GB stick finally... {censored}.

/me beats himself up over this now...

Bleh.

Wow good thing I waited to buy one I was about to buy when it was released and then decided to wait a little and save some more for a better configuration and then they come out with this! Always a good upgrade.

i'm happy about apple updating it's software and hardware frecuently, this is good for us apple users, but i feel a little sad about my macbook pro, i spend my money in a good piece of hardware, but it took just 1 month to be outdated. :( well i'll have to make the money for the new macbookpro. it's simply awsome... almost 50% faster.. damn

Wow. A lot sooner than I anticipated. Well how much longer 'til my BacBook's outdated? This actually isn't upsetting to me as a MB owner. It really wouldn't have been worth the wait to get Core 2 Duo. Thanks for the update.

FINALLY! :(

I ordered mine one hour after it was released. Education discount through wifey = even nicer!

Should be here Nov. 1st! As a switcher, I imagine that will be a big day for me, eh?

finally what I've been waiting for. And to think, today I had decided that I was probably just going to take the plunge this week anyway. And now you get 40 gigs more space, and twice the ram for the same money! Not to mention a dual layer burner. I'm excited!

An important thing here guys is the additional 1 gb of ram you can now add for a total of 3gb. Especially when you consider the speed boost in Rosetta apps from having more RAM, and the amount of memory chewed up by running Parallels, this is a really important option.

For me I'm going to see if I can't get a free upgrade from Apple (my current MBP has been in for repairs twice, has had a fan, hard drive, mouse, battery, and power adapter replaced, and now the keyboard backlight is broken). If not then I'll sell this on eBay and go for a maxxed out 17inch MBP. In hindsight the extra screen real estate will be nice for the web design work I do.

Came out faster than I thought. Im after a 24" Imac or bigger. Hopfully with HD support and the Mrs wants the middle range 15" MBP. Ill wait til Leopard come pre-installed, who knows what hardware will be in then...

http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/specs.html *see if you can find the typo*
17-inch MacBook Pro
  • ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 graphics processor, dual -ink DVI support, 256MB of GDDR3 SDRAM.

I win.

The day the Core 2s go in the MacBooks is the day I buy one. I've been holding off for the Core 2 Duo for a while now. Leopard doesn't matter all that much to me, as I won't be buying it till 10.5.3 or so, so they can work the bugs out.
