All-new InsanelyMac website

zaw00r

Welcome to the all-new InsanelyMac website! It's been a longtime coming, a lot of late nights in the office, but we've finally re-launched our beloved website with a whole host of new features.

Our news is now run from the industry standard content management platform, WordPress. We've integrated this in with our existing forum so there's no need to re-register to leave comments on News posts.

The new website also heralds the launch of our OSx86 database - an area where you can find compatibility reports on many PC components and hardware, and see which bits of hardware work with which OS X builds and any further details. This area will be expanding regularly, and soon you will be able to submit your own reports on hardware that you've tried so that we can build the best and most comprehensive database of OS X compatible components and hardware ever!

We've got plenty more features and functionality that we'll be adding over the coming weeks, we'll keep you posted as and when we update the website.

We'd love to hear your feedback on our new site and look forward to delivering more great updates soon!

Maybe you should have read all the other posts about the new forum before you create a new POST, or are you guys some of the "undercover" employees trying to support the new mess!?

ALSO

"The new website also heralds the launch of our OSx86 database" which is an exact copy of the old one!

Ed - do you mind telling me why almost all the entries in InsanelyMac's Hardware Database are exact clones from OSx86 Library's Hardware Database?

Examples include:

http://www.osx86library.com/hardware/view.php?id=18

http://www.insanelymac.com/osx86db/device?id=307

http://www.osx86library.com/hardware/view.php?id=188

http://www.insanelymac.com/osx86db/device?id=794

Our records in our database contained little footnotes enclosed in square brackets for when we needed to research more information about the item. It's fine if you want to make a hardware database - but don't start ripping off others!

exciting!

Damn!!! Amazing new design! Well, actually the old theme became a bit old-fashioned...

Very nice integration of the OSx86 DB,but it's important that members can submit their own experiences with specific hardware.

But it should be somehow controlled so that there's is not a flood of duplicates.

Otherwise perfect!!!

While the new design is not hideous, it is no where near the aesthetic of the original design. This new design lost the OSX feel of it which was there in the original design. This theme looks very unpolished too. Look at the logo graphic above, it looks bad, the curve on the logo looks weird, poor alpha channel on the PNG or something. And "Mental about Macs?" Which brainiac came up with that? And it loads super slow now compare to the old site.

Oh well, I'm just glad they didn't go with the black theme.

@hecabe - thanks for the feedback, we're already mid way through addressing some of your points, although speed is something that we're adamnt we've improved upon - the site's been heavily optimised! Do you use the yslow extension in FireFox? @SticMAC - we're currently in talks with the folks over at OSx86 Library about collaborating - we'll keep you posted as things unfold, and keep an eye out for the ability to submit your own hardware edits within the next 24 hours!

Hey I love the look of this new site it is great a big ascetic improvement over the previous version. What platform is this forum running on? I assume since this site is about open source technology the forum is probably running on an open source platform as well.

Is this skin/backbone available to the public? I am working on a small forum for the industry I am in testing parachutes and love the look and overall functionality of this web site please let me know PM or on the board here is fine as well.

I agree with Stravaganza "The *readability* (with Safari on Mac OS X) in forums is not good; the choice of font and combination of front and background colors are bad, which results in a poor contrast, and in turn leads to bad readability."

Takes a lot of work to read the forums....gives me a headache....really!

I'm curious what software was used to run the previous forum?

I totally agree about the slowdown, i've had to install the adblock firefox extension just to stop the googleads to make it speed up some...

As for the new logo, it looks good IMHO. The only thing i would love to see added would be the profile plugin that you could customise for peoples hardware specs that adds that info into the side of the post by their avatar and forum info.. can't remember the name of the plugin but if i can i'll let you know. Reason for thinking that is that you could use that information on people's current hardware setups to help populate the hardware database easier.. plus it would make it easier for people to add in their information ;)

My years in the web business has taught me that the simple the solution, the more people use it :thumbsup_anim:

@verdant - simply click on the news posts that are on the Home page - the news IS the blog - hope that clears your query up, but let me know if not! =)

good graphic but too slow...

I agree. It's more than likely a skin issue. Skins like this typically react that way. I'm glad there's a new look but it seems harder to read the threads. That equates to a less than enjoyable experience.

Also, not sure if it's been fixed yet but we noticed one of the password generators wasn't working.

As you can all see the hardware DB has now been withdrawn until the stolen content can be purged and the DB relaunched.

On behalf of InsanelyMac I'd like to apologize for appropriating this information which was done with the best of intentions. As one of the admins at osx86Library is also an admin here, some people here at InsanelyMac figured they would have no objection to our using their material for our own purposes. However an objection was made, and as we couldn't agree on terms for using the material freely, we have agreed to remove the stolen material.

Once more, our apologies.

What is with this annoying pop-up that I keep getting in Firefox "The page at www.insanelymac.com says: This action is supported only by high-res screens." Every time I move to a new thread, go back page refresh, etc., this pops up and I have to click OK to make it go away before doing anything else. I'm running 1280x1024 75million colors, its not like I'm on VGA 640 x 480 or something archaic. How can this be fixed?

edit: it seems like it only happens when the browser window is narrowed, less than about 3/4 the screen width. really odd and annoying. It would be nice if we could toggle off all of the fancy graphic candy.
