In Topic: The Fermi "Freeze" Discussion (Possible solutions?)

26 March 2012 - 02:47 AM

Wassup folks! Has anyone tried the new Nvidia driver for 10.7.3 yet? http://www.nvidia.co...f01-driver.html

Hi All,
I have a "real" mac pro 3.1 and have experienced this freeze - but only in Firefox 11. I Didn't get a freeze until I updated Cuda from 4.1.9 to 4.2.5
I have hex edited the driver for OpenCL to work.
I have rolled back Cuda to see if this fixes it.
Anyone else experience Fermi freeze in OSX Lion on a real Mac Pro?
My card is an ECS GTX460 1 gb

rolled back Cuda 4.1.9 - Still freezes ala KP
rolled back Open CL hex edit - Still freezes
rolled back to original Nvidia driver 270 - still freezes
Original Apple drivers in Lion do not recognise the card.
Only common denominator is that I have just started using Firefox 11 as my Web Browser.
The Machine ran for hours using Chrome without a hitch.
I will test this as well.
edit: mmm strange no freezes after 2 hours - only using Chrome browser.
Firefox get KPs regularly. Ill stop using FF

In Topic: Set OSX boot partition from windows

Not sure if this will help you but apple has a program called Bootpicker which allows the user to pick the OS at login. It always boots to the OSX partition after a Windows shutdown.

In Topic: [HOWTO] Boot Macs with Intel Chipset in AHCI Win7 Vista XP Linux

21 March 2012 - 07:40 AM

I just enabled AHCI in Windows 7 on my Mac Pro 3.1 with a non EFI Graphics card and now the bootcamp panel is gone (I missed that one in this thread).
Long and short of it I need to boot back into OSX . I will probably have to install an EFI card to do this in the short term.I am hoping to try and do it from command line in Windows but not sure if that will work.

Had initial blinking cursor problems on startup after installing Intel Matrix Storage Manager V8.9. MBR may have been stuffed up by Parallels or PRAM reset, not sure which. Anyhow after much stuffing around trying to fix this I had to swap my Windows 7 install HDD to Bay 1 on my Mac Pro to be able to boot windows again.

Anyhow Intel Storage manager reports drives as Generation 2, however I am only getting around 3 mbps in Passmark benchmarks on my drives.

I thought I should be getting closer to 300mbps. I was actually getting better benchmarks before enabling AHCI.

Does this tweak only apply to SSD or SATA2 drives as well

My bad - I need to test an SSD Drive........................
