It has been running great with my USB3 hub, Seagate backup plus USB 3 drives, and other harddrives... But when I plug in a LaCie Rugged Mini 500gig drive to my USB 3, the system freezes solid. It runs fine through firewire. My motherboard is the EVGA Classified II, and it has a NEC 3.0 chipset built in.

What USB 3.0 HUB are you using in your system ?  And which driver are you using ?

Yeah - I actually bought a CalDigit FASTA-6GU3, to avoid all this hassle... and it has all the same issues...  (SL 10.6.8)

I fear it's just that the driver is useless, not that it's not working with your particular hardware.

Oh, I did sort of get it to recognise my HUB, but only the first device I plugged in worked,  and it would instantly KP on boot.

Brilliant. Useless driver then. It doesn't seem like CalDigit, or any of the card manufacturers are interested in keeping up the drivers.

You might think at some point they'd just put the code for the drivers out. It's not like they're going to be losing money if they're not supporting the cards,
and frankly they'd be earning themselves the good will of the public because they've given people the opportunity to make something of the hardware.

Does this driver support USB 3.0 hubs ( and by extension, external drives connected to the hub ) ? Anyone able to get that to run ?

Yes, read post 76

I mean, has anyone patched the 10.8.3 kext and released it. If it works at least with the u720200(a) chipsets, at least it'd be worth trying out.

Also, since I haven't seen anyone SPECIFICALLY mention it......has anyone tried using a usb 3.0 hub connected to their USB 3.0 cards to see if you can plug in more than 1 external drive ? That's currently a limitation of the patched LaCie drivers, while they can see a USB 3.0 hub now, they won't enumerate drives connected to them.

This is the patched 1.0.11 driver with the removed info.plist entry, just as in 1.0.10.
While it DOES now see a root USB 3.0 HUB, it DOES NOT, however, see any drives attached to the HUB itself. Therefore, one step forward,
1/2 step back.

It DOES generate more logging information ( which could prove useful to some ). At this point, perhaps once the Generic UHCI driver gets more stable,
it might be worth it to switch to it, but I don't see LaCie updating this one much further, boys and girls.

Enjoy.
