[10.7] ATI Radeon X1550/X1300 - QE/CI?

24 November 2012 - 02:47 PM

I've heard on and off that the X1550 supports QE/CI with a few hacks/modifications.

I've tried ATY_Init but it never worked. Trying EvoEnabler now, I've seen a post saying the X1550 and the X1300 use the Caretta codename/framebuffer.
And the hex number is 7187.

In some cases I cannot boot into 32-bit mode but I can use 64-bit mode.
Also I have to use latest IOPCIFamily because Natit is complaining about it. :P

Attempt 1: EvoEnabler using the Caretta Framebuffer.
32-bit mode: Nope. Just sticks at evoenabler: Probing
64-bit mode: Managed to get maximum resolution (1440x900 for my HP w19ev monitor). No QE/CI.

Attempt 2: Natit
32-bit mode:This is the opposite of above. I get maximum resolution without QE/CI, but not under 64-bit mode.
64-bit mode: Nope. Natit is 32-bit on here.

Attempt 3: Natit + ATIRadeonX100.kext (Modded)
I did not try 64-bit mode since my wireless adapter requires 32-bit mode.
It loads, but then it goes blank.

[FIXED] Can't even get to the install GUI [USB]

23 November 2012 - 01:52 PM

I'm trying to install OS X Lion on my PC. It's old, but I managed to get Snow Leopard on it just fine.

I pinpointed my problem to the fact I'm booting from a USB. I made a USB using another Hackintosh, and installed Chameleon on it. It gets past [PCI config begin] just fine, but it freezes at FakeSMCDevice: Successfully initialized. Turning USB 2.0 off did fix that, but is extremely slow.
I know it's not the graphics - if it was, the computer wouldn't even boot at all.
I don't have any discs on hand at the moment.
Now I'm stuck on launchctl.c:2408 bug. This happened both when I fixed FakeSMC and when I turned USB 2.0 off.

I've installed Lion, and I'm in the process of getting to the OS!

Any suggestions?

Here are my specs:
Intel Core 2 Duo E4500 (if it doesn't work at all and I somehow give up, I'll just use this as I have a computer with a Pentium D that I can get rid of! They both use the LGA 775 socket. :D)
3GB RAM
250GB Hard Drive
SiS 671 chipset (People have mixed experiences with this. Some people have managed to install Lion, some haven't but I've seen more positive experiences.) I used AppleVIAATA.kext and it worked fine!
Graphics and sound I will worry about later, in fact I've seen kexts for both.
Wireless? I'm using my ol' Netgear WG111V3.

Best graphics card for Snow Leopard?

22 September 2012 - 03:41 PM

Well, two things:
1. Will newer PCI Express x16 cards (the 2.0/3.0 ones) work with the 1.0 slots? I heard they do.
2. If they do, what's the best low-end card for said slot and Snow Leopard? I have a 300W PC that needs upgrading. So far the hard drive and the RAM has been upgraded. I'm leaving the processor as it is at the moment, but the graphics I really want to upgrade. I have really horrible worse-than-low-end integrated graphics. They work with Snow Leopard really well, but it slows down the computer a lot, even in Windows. One example is on ROBLOX, where the vehicles and skateboards are very slow.

Sorry if I'm acting like such an idiot, though. :(

Before I go off installing SL... 64-bit Kexts?

21 July 2012 - 11:00 AM

I've installed Snow Leopard a few times before, but not with the joy of 64-bit mode, potentially not allowing me to use most apps from the App Store when upgrading to 10.6.7.

I want to know if 64-bit kexts exist for the following:
  • Intel GMA 950
  • Realtek 8187B (close enough to that "model number") for my Netgear WG111v3 wireless adapter
  • Realtek ALC888
  • (not needed but would be great) Intel ICH7 chipset
Kexts.com helps a lot but not by much. If you want to know which mobo it is, it's a P5LP-LE from Asus.
